View Full Version : DWIN HD700 and DirecTV Plus HD DVR

My projector is a Dwin HD700 with a Transcanner 1. I had a HD300 Sony DirecTV receiver connected to the Transcanner via RGB from the Sony to the RGB input on the Transcanner. It worked great. Now I've replaced the HD300 Sony DirecTV receiver with the DirecTV Plus HD DVR which only has component outputs (in addition to an HDMI output, which I have connected to a Sony LCD TV).

Here's my question: If I take the component outputs from the DirecTV Plus HD DVR into the component inputs on the Transcanner, I get a very distorted and shakey, double side-by-side image on the HD700 projector. What is the best way to correct this problem?

Thanks.

The Transcanner 1 sucks. Its component inputs only accept 480i. Only its 15 pin RGB input accepts, passes through with decoding of 720p and 1080i.

I got rid of my Transcanner 1 back in 2000. Had a Transcanner 2 for a bit, which had two component inputs that accept 480i and scale, or accept 720p and 1080i and pass through and decode that.

My current Lumagen VisionPro HDP works fine with my DirecTV Plus and HD TIVO DVRs. No issues whatsover.

If you want to keep the Transcanner 1, you will need whatever converts component to 15 pin RGB

Thanks Steve -- I just caught that info too from reading another thread of yours. I have no attachment to the Transcanner and would glady replace it. Are you saying that preformance of the HD700 will improve with a different device such as the Lumagen? Also, could you recommend a few other scaler choices? Many thanks.

There's lotsa video processor/scalers out now that much outperform the
Transcanners. No contest!!!

I've had my Lumagen VisionPro HDP for several years and am very pleased with it.

You might want to do some research at the video processor forum on this.

Went out a picked up a Component to RGB cable and hooked up the component outputs of the DirecTV Plus HD DVR to the RGB input on the Transcanner, but no go. Switched Transcanner via its menu to RGB input, but HD700 menu does say no video source. I'm stumped.

You probably need a component to RGB transcoder, as its going through a pure pass through on the Transcanner 1. That's my guess. Been a long time since I had a Transcanner 1.

I think you're right Steve. Trying to search the forum here for some recommendastions that won't crush the black level.

Looks like this is the one:

Steve is the resident HD700 expert I think he covered it all actually.

But yea the RGB input on the TS is a pass through and it wont do a but of good to ues a component to RGB cable. The signal need to be a tru RGBHV signal like from a computer to work with that input.

TS only has interlased inputs then leave the HD receiver at 480i and the TS will scale to your highest line rate. ( via component video )
The HD700 is so much more then what the Transcanners lead the user to belive. An HD700 with a true HD scalser will blow away pretty much all oter 7"projectors and make you think twice abotu getting an 8"
In all honestly if your not using other sources I would just get a transcoder and run the HD receiver right into the DWIN's RGB inputs ( as long as the syncs are negitive ) and set the HD receiver to 720p.

I good scaler for the DWIN is the DVDO ICAN HD+ you may be able to find one used.

Thanks Vic -- I'm leaning toward getting something like the DVDO since in addition to the DirecTV receiver, I'd like to integrate a standard DVD player and a BlueRay player. I'm not sure how many more years I'll keep the DWIN so don't want to spend a ton on a scaler, but I'm just not sure which DVDO to get. Since the iScan HD+ is discontinued, do you have any other recommendations given my setup? Steve has the Lumegen, not sure which is better for me. Sorry for all the questions, I don't have very much knowledge re scalers and such. Many thanks.
