Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm at the point in my basement home theater project where I'm ready to install the ceiling mounted projector and mount the fixed frame screen.

My question is how to go about hanging a fixed frame screen. Do you just mount the projector on the ceiling and project on the wall to figure out where to hang the screen? I've looked at the measurements from the Optoma Website and it says I should mount 12' 8" from the projection wall but I'm still not 100% confident on where to hang the screen.

I've got an Optoma HD70 projector with a 92" Diagonal HDTV screen from Elite Screens.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Its a little more difficult than you described. The projector will probably throw the top of the picture about a foot below the projector. You want the bottom third of the screen to be at your eye level when seated.

Put the projector on a ladder at the distance that your going to use and project on the wall. Then determine how far up or down you need to move the projector to put the picture on the wall where you want it to be.

Some projectors have vertical shift features which allow you to adjust the height at which the image is projected in relation to the ceiling. I cant remember if the HD70 has this or not...

But mounting the projector with a mount you purchased and moving the screen to fit will work...you dont' always have to follow the rules as long as you are happy!;)

I want to post a "Almost Gotcha" here.

I too have the HD70 and a DIY screen (BO cloth and frame). Using the Optoma calculator I mounted the projector at what I had calculated to be the midpoint for the HD70s zoom range. Projected on the wall and found out that the picture was too large!!! I had to move the zoom control down to the smallest picture size for it to fit my constrained area. Then I made the screen to fit the picture.

Just be very cautious about the mounting position for the projector.

I would put the screen up in the preferred location and then figure out how far back to mount the projector. Do this with the zoom control midway!!!!!
