I am trying to get Twonky Media Server running in OSX and I have hit a major problem - I can't get the PS3 to activate UPnP.

I have enabled UPnP on my wireless modem (Netgear DG834G) via the browser config page.

I've tried auto and manually entering all the IP addresses etc in the Ps3 Internet Connection setup without any luck.

I'm also running the latest PS3 firmware update.

I'd like to know how other people managed to get their PS3 to activate UPnP.

Cheers

try to put the PS3's IP address inside the DMZ.
input the PS3 IP address MANUALLY in the Internet Connection setup.
check if u got the routers latest firmware update. hope this helps.

Sorry but I'll need some help with these!

try to put the PS3's IP address inside the DMZ.
Where is this done?

input the PS3 IP address MANUALLY in the Internet Connection setup.
What's the easiest way to find the PS3's IP address?

check if u got the routers latest firmware update. hope this helps.
I know how to update the firmware via PC but not via OSX!

go here and chose your router model: v1 or v2 or v3
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/DG834G.asp
after you chose ur model, a new page open with the firmware update available for download on the left side of the screen. get the latest one.

i dont have netgear, im connected using Linksys. i have UPnP available and NAT2 wirelessly.

now, go to ur browser config page. at the DHCP section. what is your starting IP number is? mine for example is 192.168.2.200....this means that my computer get 192.168.2.200 as an ip address. and the second device connected to the router (PS3) gets 192.168.2.201..the third device would take 192.168.2.202 and so on. figure out which ip address is your PS address and go to the DMZ section (in linksys its under Applications
& Gaming) and enable DMZ and enter your ps3 ip adress (mine would be 192.168.2.201).

Now go to your PS3 and setup a new connection.. when asked, enter your IP address MANUALLY. i did that and all my connection problems went away for some odd reason.

also, be sure to ONLY put your PS3's IP address in DMZ, never your PC's.

UPnP has never been reported as working properly on my PS3. I contacted my router's support, and they said that the issue is with the PS3 not handling UPnP properly. A fix is being worked on with my router, but the issue is really with the PS3 and how it was designed. Hopefully, a firmware for my router or for the PS3 will fix this.

I have a Dlink DGL-4300 Gaming router, UPnP doesn't work for the PS3 either on it.

I just updated the firmware on my Netgear DG384G and it has stuffed my internet connection between it and the PS3.

I just found this (http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=10683&highlight=dg834g+ps3&page=2) thread on the Netgear site documenting a bug in the firmware. I am really annoyed now and have sent an email to product support at Netgear.

True that ... there is a video on youtube confirming this ... the dude does several things (manually entering the info, DMZ, etc.) and at the end UPnP is not available but hes able to communicate fine with his headset. I hope a fix is coming soon b/c it is annoying when trying to setup your connection.

Same here....yet it is enabled and it works fine on my 360 connected right next to it

uPnP is one of the worst pieces of software on routers today. Unless you have a matched pair of hardware and drivers, expect something to go wrong. I worked with a few wireless companies and the Product Managers know that uPnP suck, but they can only do so much since there isn't a well defined spec or testing center that actually cares about uPnP.

My personal opinion, disable uPnP and be done with it. :)

Unfortunately some very specific things were left up to the manufacturer to implement or not, which usually means those features are useless in real life. But that's not the biggest problem, it's just that router makers are really awful about certifying their firmware properly. That makes using the latest firmware (and having a recent model router) very important. My personal opinion, disable uPnP and be done with it. :)That's great, but it doesn't help the OP get the media server running, which requires UPnP.

My suggestions - don't bother putting anything in the DMZ, that affects how your NAT affects your PS3, but it shouldn't have any affect on UPnP. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. Make sure UPnP is enabled and that there aren't any restictions on who can use it. If you are technically inclined and care enough, you can download free software from Intel that includes UPnP diagnostic tools you can run on a PC to figure out what exactly is wrong.

I did download the latest firmware and it bricked the connection between the PS3 and router! See my above post for the link. I am currently trying to get that sorted with Netgear.

Everything is enabled for UPnP via the browser config page as far as I can see.

What is the piece of software from Intel to help diagnose UPnP problems?
