Hi, I have these wide red/purple bands across the screen (only when movie plays) that appear randomly, seem to originate from light objects in the movie they are about 6 inches wide and a screen can have several of them. They would disappear suddenly when a new scene comes on or the picture changes, then they come back again.

Well to try and fix it I have, tried different cables, new video card, new computer, new Dvd player software.

The only thing left I can think of is that my Sony 1271 (about 5000hrs) has a problem.

Could the problem be in the unit. I have had it for 4 years and this only recently started happening.

Any help appreciated.

Do the reddish bands tend to appear to the right of intense red areas?

My XG and Marquee both displayed problems like that if the input signal was too "hot" -- more than the proper 0.7Vpp. Apparently that signal overloaded the video inputs and resulted in the color staying on after it should have.

Is it possible your video card is feeding too high a voltage into your projector's input? Do you have anything between the video card and the pj? My RTC2200 Kimcoder caused it for me, since it boosted the signal's Vpp when you boosted the low end to modify gamma. I had to use an Extron box with variable output to scale the Vpp back to the proper 0.7V range.

Thanks Garyfritz for your comments. The cable goes direct from the PC video card (vga to BNC) to the Sony, nothing in between. I noticed that the band goes right across the screen and appears to me to be comming direct from white or bright white light on the screeen.

Everything was fine a while back, so not sure whats changed. I also notice that it happens more on avi's or divx's.

So I guess if no solution I will have to try and find a Tech in Perth, Aus, who knows about sony's

Thanks Again.
