I hope this doesnt violate any rules.

Sanyo PLV-Z1 with 100 hours on the bulb. Also comes with a brand new 80" Duet Wide screen. Ive trying to do research on this projector, but this guy has somebody else coming to look at it tonight, so I need an answer quick. Hes asking $400 for the projector, screen, power cords, manual, and remote. This will be my first projector, and will be used for my ps3 and watching movies only. I was going to buy the panasonic 720p projector for about $900 to start off with, but this seems like a pretty good deal to me.

One drawback I see is no hdmi, meaning I will have to use component for video. Its not that bad, but it just means I will have to pick up a set of component cables for my ps3. My main concerns are clarity of image in a light controlled room, and if this will be fine for gaming. I play resistance online, and will also be playing warhawk as well. Im new to projectors, so I dont know if only certain ones can handle video games. I know with lcd tv's you need a faster refresh rate to keep up with games. Opinions, thoughts? Is price ok, or should I talk him down? Will this handle ps3 games fine? Do they make component cables long enough for me ps3? The cord will need to be at least 20ft long. Will this projector display 720p fine? Sorry for the newb questions, but im in a rush. Thanks all!

It is not a bad deal if it works well-however if you plan to sit close to the screen, like closer than 13 or 14 feet, you will see prominent screen door. I had a Z1 set up for a while with a 88" diagonal screen and with a viewing distance of 11 feet the screen door was unbearable. The amount of defocussing it took to eliminate the grid resulted in a soft picture.

As a previous Z1 owner I can tell you that you will be happy with this as your first PJ. I was happy when I paid $1500 for it. It's plenty sharp. You will have to go to the 'tweak thread' here on AVS and do some adjustments. Out of the box color accuracy and settings are not too good. I don't know if the guy you are buying it from knew that and already made adjustments and/or calibrated?

I don't know anything about that screen but its got to be better than shining it on a wall. I had my Z1 displayed on a 92" HCCV so you will be fine with that size for sure. As long as the room is dark you should smiling ear to ear for that price. I used component hooked to my xbox 360 and was very pleased.

I wouldn't bother with anything less than 720P in LCD due to screen door effect. Just my opinion...

The Z1 is dim and not even HD...Get a Z2...I have had both, and they are night and day apart in video quality..the Z2 is real hd..You can probably pick up a Z2 for 3 or 4 bills on Ebay...Screens are cheap..you wont be sorry...Good luck...Al

if its not hd, no hdmi, pass on it. maybe for $150 at most to tide u over til u can get hd pj.

if u're gonna get it, u need to see it performing, if possible, before u buy it. especially being used. i still say pass.

This would be for your grand entrance into the PJ world, right?

Yep, you might as well just either get an IF 4805, or an Acer 530 for a few Benjamins more...Maybe hold out until Black Friday to see what possibilities there are? NewEgg, Office Max, or maybe our sponsors hereabouts will announce some deals?
