What is the most affordable 1280x1024 (or higher) projector? I've tried looking around but there are so many projectors. Preferably LCD unless a cheaper DLP can be found.

There really are none. Your cheapest alternative is to get a 1920x1080 projector and use the 4:3 center portion of the image. For example, the epson powerlite 1080 or the Optoma hd80

If you need 4:3 then check out the Dell 5100mp.
