After seeing the specs of the new Black Pearl, I'm trying to figure out if the projector will actually be able to be rear-shelf mounted in my HT room. I know the width is about 15.5 inches, but I was wondering what the distance is from the actual inputs to the edge of the unit? You see, I'm trying to figure out if I'd have enough space to fit the projector in a rather enclosed space and need to know the space needed for the cables since they're connected to the side. If you have easy access to your Pearl, I'd appreciate if you could measure it for me. Thanks!

to be comfortable I would add another 3".
You may be able to squeeze it in 2.5", but I prefer to let my cables have some slack and room to fall comfortably.

I would suggest 19" as the minimum- but then remember that the unit draws air in to cool itself from vents running along the the front and side.
it would probably be wise to give it more clearance all around unless you are going to go to the trouble of putting a fan in.

Hmmm, It's at home, but the inputs look to be recessed 1-1/2" or so from the edge of the main body. Most of that is sucked up by the cable connector body. It depends on your cable radios, I suppose.

In the shot below you can see the component cables extending a bit past the body of the unit... they are flexible enough that you tighten the radius some.

What you can't see is the HDMI cable behind them... it follows roughly the same radius, and I'd hesitate to put much more stress on the connector with the cable I have, as it's reasonably thick (monoprice 35'). I might try it with one of these (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024005&p_id=2891&seq=1&format=2&style=) though.

Thanks for the info, gentlemen. I really appreciate it. I've always been interested in the Sony's, and if the Black Pearl has even the smallest of improvements over the Pearl, it'll be at the very top of my list.

I have just over 18.5 inches to try and fit the projector in as far as width goes. Height and length do not appear to be any problem. However if it looks like the shelf space is too tight, and I feel strongly about buying the Sony over a JVC or Panasonic, I can always ceiling mount it.

Thanks again.
