View Full Version : Source vs Display Adjustments

Quick rundown of my equipment first...

Sources:
Denon 2930CI
Playstation 3

AVR:
Denon 2307CI

Display:
Epson Cinema Pro 810

Both sources are connected to the AVR via HDMI, then one HDMI cable runs from the AVR to the display.

The 2930 is using HDMI so I can upscale standard def video, while the playstation needs HDMI connectivity for Blu-Ray.

What I have discovered is, that the Brightness/Contrast Settings vary a considerable amount between the two sources. My display has no discrete buttons/codes to access any of the nine adjustment memories...so when I switch from one source to the other, I have to use the display remote to select the proper memory setting. This of course makes my nice universal remote somewhat useless.

Now, my 2930CI has some pretty in depth picture adjustments that I could use to adjust it such that it's contrast/output is the same as the PS3. That would allow me to use the same memory setting on the display.

I would limit my adjustments to just Brightness/Contrast. The contrast would have to be pulled down a considerable amount on the 2930 to bring it inline with the PS3 (which lacks any sort of picture adjustments)

Does anyone have thoughts about making basic pic adjustments at the source? I'm aware that the preferred method would be at the display, but having to fiddle with another remote is not very desirable.

Comments are appreciated...

I'll bet that a JP1-able universal remote (like the Radio Shacks or the one-for-all's) can access these controls. You might just need a different universal remote. check out hifi-remote.com or remotecontrolcentral.com

When I called Epson, they said no discrete codes were available for those settings. I don't even think that they listed any RS232 codes for the input memories.

If you have the OEM remote, then you can learn the codes for discrete input selection to a OFA remote (one-for-all remote such as the 8910). Then you can create an upgrade for said discrete input selection and program it as a keymove to a button. See hifi-remote.com for details. We do this all the time ;-)

I also notice an epson projector upgrade already in the file section. Usually manufacturer's codes are consistent across devices, but sometimes not. Doesn't matter really given the abilities/experience of the JP1 experts and the tools.

Best,
jeff

can you provide the links for me so I can take a look?
Thanks

discrete input selection

Jeff,

just to clarify...I have discrete input (HDMI, Comp, etc) buttons. What I am looking for is discrete picture adjustments..ie NightDVD, NightVCR, etc.

thanks
patrick

Hi patrick,
If those functions (NightDVD, NightVCR, etc.) are available from the OEM remote, then it's a slam dunk. As you posted in the first post. go to www.hifi-remote.com. Check the stickies in beginners, general, etc. Register and post there if you need help.

Best,
jeff
