View Full Version : IKEA TOBO Series
tiger3p 08-27-07, 11:37 AM Hi all,
Was hoping you can help with the delimna my wife and I are having. We want to put our 52" Sharp LCD that is currently in our basement in our living room. This would allow the basement to be converted into our kids playroom. Currently, our tv is mounted on the wall. When we were at IKEA this weekend, we saw a furniture called TOBO goes for about $319 for both the bench and the TV wall. The bench says maximum 143 lbs it does not however say how much the TV wall can accomodate. The ad just say "No more drilling holes in your walls. Just hang the TV directly to the TV wall." Anyone have this furniture and can it accomodate a 52" LCD?
Thanks for any help!
tiger3p, the bench is indeed the TOBO brand, but the TV wall was probably not. The only TV wall IKEA sells is the STOLMEN (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00108656) TV wall.
I'm may be in IKEA on Friday, so I'll take a look and ask some questions if I do in fact go.

what's your gear sitting on there?

Overtone, the table is from IKEA and it's the SKIRÖ (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30106547) model. The picture of the table on IKEA's site doesn't really do it justice.
The shelf below is a simple solution I thought of, when I saw the coffee table. It's a white LACK (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00118622) shelving unit, sitting on 4 metal tealight holders. I wanted to make it look like the shelf was floating and I feel like I achieved that look.
Since it's a simple bedroom HT, I didn't want to blow my budget and I think I got a good look for minimal money.
Overtone 08-29-07, 01:08 PM That bottom shelf is genius... it looks very sophisticated... like you have some kind of a floating stone slab or something! :D
Overtone 08-29-07, 01:17 PM Oh, it's the "iPod" coffee table! :p
tiger3p 08-29-07, 02:40 PM is you tv wall mounted?
Indeed it is, tiger3p. It's 50 inches and I used a Sanus mount.
tiger3p 08-30-07, 12:31 PM Looks nice... I'm thinking of mounting the TV myself on wall this weekend.. can't be that hard right?

It was a truly simple task, tiger3p.
Drill holes, screw mount to wall, hang television and it's really that easy. Actually the hardest part is deciding what height you want to mount your television at.
Just make sure you buy a mount made by a quality manufacturer.
miguel077 11-15-07, 11:30 PM Hi, I have the same problem, I got the TOBO TV Bench with the TOBO TV Panel extension to mount the screen, but there is no structural information about the panel on the package. I wrote IKEA asking for what screws do they recommend to attach the TV mount to the panel, but I'm still waiting for a response. As soon as I get any details I'll let you know.
runny_yolk 06-09-08, 05:22 PM Hi there, I'm curious if you ever reached resolution on this. I'm kinda in the same boat in that we have a 52inch that I'd like I mount on this, but I'm certainly not going to risk a TV worth thousands of dollars if there isn't some margin of safety involved.
tiger3p 06-09-08, 07:58 PM well.. after much debate, returned the TV back panel to IKEA and decided to wall mount the TV directly to the wall =)
runny_yolk 06-09-08, 11:43 PM Funny, I think we came to the same conclusion. Though we will likely just set the TV on its stand on top of the tobo shelf unit. thanks for the feedback, if anyone else risks their TV on this, please report on your results (good ones hopefully!)
I looked at the Tobo at Ikea earlier today. I think it looks great for the money. My only real concern is the height. It measures 26 inches high! I would prefer something between 15 and 20 inches then wall-mount the TV (52") just over it. Are the legs adjustable or can they be easily modified? I am a little handy, but I didn't make straight A's in shop.
tiger3p 09-03-08, 01:58 PM The legs are not adjustable. I'm not sure if cutting the legs will do.

ikea has some legs that they have for sale. look in the main ikea website under living room
packlet 12-31-08, 03:55 PM the legs for the TOBO are specific to that unit, so you can't just swap in another set of their generic legs. however, one can simply cut them off with a hack saw before assembly if you want them shorter. just pop out the plastic footer thing, cut, and replace the footer.
my problem was the opposite: I want the legs to be longer. i got some rectangular steel tubes, cut them to the length i want, painted them silver-ish, and will simply slip them over the existing legs to raise the whole thing by about 8". the units themselves are unmodified, and the wife might actually not complain about the look.
will post some pics, once i get it all together...
nyfan78 12-31-08, 07:26 PM We have the BENNO from IKEA. IT looks like this ...http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30133942. Its made so you can mount a TV on the "wall" part of it. The wall part is very very sturdy. I have ours just on the tv stand as i did not want to mess with it really. You may want to take a look at this one as well!
d1gt-x8 01-02-09, 12:11 AM since i wasnt able to set it up (currently deployed). my dad did it still looks a bit messy but here you go. when i get back home im plainning on wall mounting it

Actually ikea has some entertainment set legs for sale that can fit easily. check this out

packlet 01-13-09, 04:43 PM i finally got mine together, too. i didn't like the way the 3-unit piece separated the components with drawers in between, so I used two of the double units and re-engineered the right one upon assembly so the components are on the left and drawers on the right.
then i slipped my leg extensions over the stock legs to raise the whole thing up so the left-most legs are on the first stair. this leaves ~14" clearance underneath for more storage (kid's toys) in baskets or boxes...

d1gt-x8 01-19-09, 12:09 AM so does anyone else have these badboys. i would really love to see more pics.
AlpineMan 09-06-09, 08:50 PM Are the legs on the Tobo removable? Can I just put a TV on top of the unit without any legs?
Mystique 09-12-09, 01:41 AM I'm also interested in this stand. BUMP for more pictures and info!
