I've got a fair amount of experience connecting to and controling TVs using their RS232 Serial interfaces but this model is giving me fits. Well, actually it's not responding at all. The only possibly relevant docs I find on JVC's site is the RS232 Serial Control Specs (http://www.jvc.com/support/support.jsp?pageID=11)for the HD70FH96. They show that the TV uses send, receive and ground, with no flow control, etc. So I connected my laptop to the TV using an appropriate cable and ran my wonderfully useful COM Commander (http://www.byremote.com.au/Default.htm)program from ByRemote, which lets me communicate bidirectionally with any TV or or serially-controlled device. Usually, with other TVs, after setting the serial communication parameters and perhaps swapping the send and receive pins, the TV will echo back anything I type in the program, and if I get the command string correct it'll respond with an acknowledgement string. This JVC is doing nothing, no echo, no response. Plus, the docs for the commands are rather obscure so I'm not sure I even sending valid commands. Any help here??
