Does anyone know if it is possible to create lossless multichannel files that are cross-platform, and application independant?
I have looked at the following so far:
1 - WMA Lossless.
Downside - PC only AFAIK, and 5.1 only
Upside - truly lossless
2 - AAC
Downside = lossy, AFAIK requires iTunes or Quicktime
upside - is there one?
3 - MP3
Downside - MP3 in general is appalling. Not an option.
upside - there are none.
4 - FLAC
Downside - don't know if there is one
Upside - lossless, free to use

So, will Mac OS play back a WMA Lossless file?
Will a Mac OS play back a FLAC file?

Any input from our fruit-loving friends would be welcomed.....

I am pretty sure MAC will do FLAC, but I am unsure on the WMA one. Not many things support WMA lossless that I've looked at lately.

Thanks Kris.
FLAC will indeed do multichannel, but I am reliably informed there are no players. I would have to write my own for both MAC & PC, so that is out of the question.
