I'm thinking of upgrading from the SP4800 to a newer projector. I have a 100 inch 4:3 screen and was wondering what my options are for switching to a 16:9 projector. Is there a 16:9 projector out that can send out a 4:3 image or am I ignorant and they all do.

All 16:9 projectors can send a 4:3 image. You'll have black bars on the side. If the majority of your viewing is 16:9, you should switch to a 16:9 screen.
