Heh...not for me but I'm sure they've got more planned, a nice sign though that it's Dolby TrueHD!! :)
I just hope they don't ease off the pedal just because Paramount and Dreamworks came on board - was really wanting to have American Pie or Scarface this year, but each time they make these release announcements, it's something else, looking like thats not gonna happen. =/
Adam_ME 08-28-07, 08:23 AM I never bought this on DVD, but I always loved this flick. Assuming Universal doesn't botch the transfer, I'll pick it up.
awesome. Tremors with TrueHD.
Maestro J 08-28-07, 08:48 AM Huge guilty pleasure movie for me. Love that its going to be in TrueHD but I'd like a commentary to go along with it, okay Universal? :)
TV Casualty 08-28-07, 08:49 AM Heh...not for me but I'm sure they've got more planned, a nice sign though that it's Dolby TrueHD!! :)

They're going to likely save any big announcements for CEDIA at this point since it is right around the corner.
kevivoe 08-28-07, 08:53 AM Great movie for HD.
They're going to likely save any big announcements for CEDIA at this point since it is right around the corner.
Hope you're right!!! I know they "mentioned" way earlier this year American Pie was coming, might have even said this year, but then they never officially announced it. :::crosses fingers::: ;)
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......... Just b/c it looks great in HD won't get me watch a terrible movie over and over . That's what Discovery HD is for..
bboisvert 08-28-07, 09:35 AM Hope you're right!!! I know they "mentioned" way earlier this year American Pie was coming, might have even said this year, but then they never officially announced it. :::crosses fingers::: ;)
I've seen American Pie show up on several "rumored" December lists. I think you'll see that one before the year is out.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......... Just b/c it looks great in HD won't get me watch a terrible movie over and over .
You're welcome to your opinion, but I think you're in the minority with this movie. This is a really fun, entertaining flick.
Macroblocker 08-28-07, 09:36 AM Childhood fave... def have to pick this one up! And it's coming out on my b-day too! It's destiny...
UCFKevin 08-28-07, 09:40 AM NO WAY!
Dammit.
What the hell is the HD DVD camp trying to do to me, bankrupt me?!?
ShagMan 08-28-07, 09:43 AM Excellent!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......... Just b/c it looks great in HD won't get me watch a terrible movie over and over . That's what Discovery HD is for..Hey hows that fried PS3 doing...did Sony help you out with your dead console?

This is a fantastic movie on a terrible format, get your facts straight!
I didn't see it up for pre-order on Amazon as of yet. Any other dealer have it up?
evolver 08-28-07, 10:26 AM Graboids!
Macroblocker 08-28-07, 10:30 AM Does anyone know if this film has been remastered lately? I know they've done a couple of double-dips in the past... Thanks!
This will be a triple dip for me. :D
charles0424 08-28-07, 10:39 AM Nice
Bob Black 08-28-07, 10:41 AM This is a fantastic movie on a terrible format, get your facts straight!
I think you're on the wrong board.
And get your facts straight...Tremors is an excellent movie on an excellent format! And when BD has been reduced to UMD Part II, feel free to come back and play. :p
Hey hows that fried PS3 doing...did Sony help you out with your dead console?
Not looking good, they are helpful in trying to help but it doesn't look good being that I don't have a recipt and it was a promotional giveaway. I will keep people informed in the BD section.
As for Tremors it might be a good movie (matter of opinion), but it just seems like there are a lot of other catalogue releases that are much better. How about Psycho (or any Hitchcock for that matter), Lock Stock, Scarface, or Cloak & Dagger (great kids flick). Not to mention Jaws and Jurasic Park which I doubt we will see.
I know Universal has a ton of their catalogue out there but there are still a few more that we haven't seen yet.
piturra 08-28-07, 11:00 AM Universal Studios Announced 'Tremors' On HD DVD, this Nov 20
Valentine McKee: "This valley is just one long smorgasbord."
Earl Bassett: "D*** it, listen to me. I'm older and wiser."
Valentine McKee: "Yeah, well you're half right."
Burt Gummer: "Guess you broke into the wrong God d*** rec room, didn't ya!"
Super!!! Definitely worth a triple dip here!!! :D

Isn't _Scarface_ getting the 25th anniversary treatment next year or something? That's why I'd heard they were holding it back...
HPforMe 08-28-07, 12:21 PM I'm in. Always liked this movie. And like the TrueHD track.
WoW! In HD this movie will be amazing!
look at the studio ! look at the studio ! it's universal ! the whole looking amazing thing is not guaranteed, despite what it says on the box. best to wait for some reviews to come through first.
Vidmaven 08-28-07, 12:41 PM I just got through telling my kids about this movie after watching Dune and discussing giant worms. At the time I told them I was hoping Tremors would come out on HD DVD so they could see some real nasty giant worms and Voila! here we are less than a month later and it'll be here by Thanksgiving. Can't beat that.
Great Movie, one of my favs from way back when. If the PQ is near as good as "The Thing", watched it last night, it's gonna be great..... and the sound too! awesome.
cybereality 08-28-07, 01:28 PM This movie is gonna be kickass in HD, pardon my french. :D
MikeAnderson 08-28-07, 01:43 PM I can watch this movie over and over and over. Michael Gross' character is f'n hilarious...
DeathStalker2 08-28-07, 01:43 PM This is so ordered!
5thDanMaster 08-28-07, 03:21 PM Awesome. I can't wait to hear the AQ on this one. :D
I'll definitely get this one. I just hope Universal does a nice transfer.
bboisvert 08-28-07, 04:19 PM I can watch this movie over and over and over. Michael Gross' character is f'n hilarious...
"Broke into the wrong goddamn rec room, didn't you, you bastard!"
B-Diddy 08-28-07, 04:26 PM Saw Tremors in Highdef over a year ago on Universal HD. At the time, it was probably the most breath taking HD experience (movie wise) I had seen up til then. This was Cable HD low bit-rate mpeg...so a nice high bit VC-1 encode should maintain atleast what I saw, which as I said...was Breath Taking! Lossless audio ta' boot....w00t!
DrCrawn 08-28-07, 04:49 PM Love the movie, will be first dip for me. :)
Graboids!
Gonna be sorry we don't give it a name...
"Broke into the wrong goddamn rec room, didn't you, you bastard!"
One of the best lines ever delivered on film.
This is simply one fun movie, funnier than all hell, a great cast, this movie is Perfection (giggle).

+1
John Ballentine 08-28-07, 10:19 PM Love the movie, will be first dip for me. :)
#5 dip for me. Twice on laserdisc, and twice on DVD. First DVD release was non-anamorphic and second release was a box set that contained all 4 films. Yea - I guess I kinda like the film.
Yeah I will have to pick this up must have watched it 100 times as a kid. I wouldn't worry about the transfer on this one as from what I remember it's pretty much all daytime scenes, bright and in the desert should make for some really good PQ.
Kram Sacul 09-01-07, 02:34 AM If the HD-DVD uses the same source as the UHD broadcast... Look out. EE city. Big Lebowski quality. :(
Sporadic 09-01-07, 10:27 AM If the HD-DVD uses the same source as the UHD broadcast... Look out. EE city. Big Lebowski quality. :(
I thought Big Lebowski looked pretty damn good during the beach funeral scene.
Alan Gouger 09-01-07, 10:51 AM Ive seen both Tremors one and two in HD via broadcast. Tremors one looked horrendous, loaded with edge enhancement:(
I love this movie and hope it gets the treatment many of us would hope to see it deserves but I have a feeling it will be shelf filler, looking slightly better then DVD. I hope I am wrong, one of my favs!
trgraphics 09-01-07, 01:29 PM This a very fun flick and one of my favorite Kevin Bacon films. He just seems to be Val in real life to me as well, perfect casting.:)
Triple dip for me as well! Bring it on!
Tremors one looked horrendous, loaded with edge enhancement
it's a lock then. universal loves that stuff (ee).
people shouldn't be so keen to pre-order this title. it's universal. quality is NOT guaranteed. hold onto your money. wait for the reviews to come in.
I thought Big Lebowski looked pretty damn good during the beach funeral scene.
can't remember that specific scene, but this disc was pretty rough going. real bottom of the HD barrel type stuff. it makes me so angry they charge us a premium for old catalog product and give us warmed over left overs (old HD master).
Sporadic 09-01-07, 06:08 PM can't remember that specific scene, but this disc was pretty rough going. real bottom of the HD barrel type stuff.
The part where they spread Donny's ashes.
I definitely didn't think it's as bad as you are making it out to be.
cobolisdead 09-02-07, 05:01 PM WOOT! Tremors in HD! Definitely a Double Dip for me!
Alan Gouger 09-02-07, 05:10 PM The part where they spread Donny's ashes.
I definitely didn't think it's as bad as you are making it out to be.
Your both probably watching this on different apposing size displays. I just read a post where Joe Kane said the authors are using monitors way to small notice EE and other artifacts and is trying to get them to author using FP on big screens. I hope this happens. Universals track record is one that would benefit from this.
Kram Sacul 09-02-07, 05:38 PM It's not that the monitors are small now. It's that the monitors were small when these ancient EE-ridden transfers were done. They may have been decent for a downconversation to dvd but they don't cut it in their native res.
Alan Gouger 09-04-07, 12:06 PM Tremors II: "Aftershocks" is on HBO this afternoon at 2:30pm if anyone wants to watch for PQ reference. The broadcast of "Tremors" that I saw was not as good as Tremors II.
"The Look and Sound of Perfection, Nevada"
I'm all over this one!
I cannot wait. I hope the rest of the franchise comes out on HD DVD. As well as the TV series, at least in DVD.
"The Look and Sound of Perfection, Nevada"
Hey, no fair, I used the Perfection joke earlier and didn't get any takers...

Alan Gouger 09-04-07, 05:42 PM I watched the HBO version. It looked like up converted SD. I hope Universals HD Disc
looks better then HBOs version or Ill be passing. Im going to sit tight and let a few of you guys be the beta testers. Hopefully it will be good news.
Graham Johnson 09-04-07, 07:14 PM I am up for this :D
Now where are the other 3 ??????
Brad1963 11-09-07, 07:05 PM You know where has billed my card and is about to ship TREMORS on HD DVD to me. Very cool.

Should have it by in my mailbox today. I will take a look at it tonight and post my thoughts, FWIW.

He's making a valid point
HD DVD software prices suck
They are decent online at vendor like Amazon, but even then some new releases for $28 is ridiculous. The Jurassic Park Trilogy on DVD is only $14 at Amazon, when/if it is released on HD DVD Universal is definitely gonna lay the smack down at $30 a pop for each of 'em.

I agree whole heartedly I just can't bring myself to watch SD DVDs anymore. It's a real vicious cycle they've got me and so many others trapped in. :)

Gotta agree. Two months ago I would have been in the "HD is for 2001, SD is good for Tremors" frame of mind. But now I tend to feel that almost any movie I enjoy watching is worth enjoying in HD. I really like Tremors and I think I'll make the upgrade.
Now if I ever find myself buying an HD-DVD version of C.H.U.D. I hope my friends care enough to stage an intervention... :D
lilstinky 11-13-07, 09:10 PM Any reviews up for this yet or has anybody on here taken a look at it? I'm wanting to get it but wonder how the video quality is.
Well I didn't get my copy today, should be here tomorrow for sure. The holiday must have delayed this a day longer than I anticipated.
Robert George 11-13-07, 10:43 PM He's making a valid point
No it isn't. It is a completely ignorant and useless point, especially in a HD DVD forum.
SD DVD is not HD DVD and comparing them on any level is ridiculous.

Comparing HD DVD to the format it intends to replace is COMPLETELY valid, and I would really like you to justify why it's not, since you're now calling me ignorant. Pricing at a mass acceptance level is not only dictated by the merits of the format itself, but how it compares to what already exists, even if that is SD.
Damnationdoormat 11-13-07, 11:21 PM Getting back to Tremors on HD DVD, I'm really looking forward to it. It's one of those enjoyable little sci-fi cult flicks that are always welcome to me. Heck, besides the first Die Hard, this is one of my most wanted HD titles in recent weeks.
I just hope Universal sees fit to release Tremors II: Aftershocks on HD DVD sometime in the future as well. It does a very admirable job of trying to offer something new while staying true to the first film.
Arutha_conDoin 11-13-07, 11:24 PM I hope Tremors ends up as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. There are a lot of movies I want to get it and no way my wallet is going to be able to handle it all.
Aguapolo17 11-14-07, 12:08 AM I wish my stocking were stuffed with $25 HD-DVDs. That is more in the price-range of a regular present for me. :)

Welcome to being an early adopter. The pricing is very close to what DVD was back when it was first released.

I say stocking stuff since it will actually fit in the stocking. :D Only bad thing about that idea is so do diamond rings, and necklaces..
Tremors for what, $25? $30? vs. all 4 Tremors movies for $13.xx at walmart on dvd...in widescreen.
Well, it's a bad non-anamorphic NTSC, 10-year-old transfer on DVD or a new HD version. Not too hard to pick one will be better. If you're really concerned about the price I'm sure Tremors can be picked up on second-hand VHS if you look around. You could save yourself a good $10 on those overpriced DVDs.
cobolisdead 11-14-07, 10:40 AM LOL!
Seriously though, he has a good point that it is over priced, but the point of it being just as expensive as DVDs were in the beginning is also valid.
bullymom 11-14-07, 10:59 AM I don't know, I paid $19.95 for mine from Amazon with free two day shipping( not 25 to 30). Well worth it to me.

Your general point is valid, but I just wanted to correct the facts a bit. The transfer of Tremors (in the 4-movie pack) is a more recent one from a couple of years back, and it's anamorphic.
Snickering Hound 11-14-07, 03:26 PM My copy came in today.
This is a very good catalog upgrade from Universal.
The VC-1 encode has a good 3d "pop" to it and there is little if any dirt or scratches.
If you are a fan of a film, it's worth getting.

wallijonn 11-15-07, 03:19 PM awesome. Tremors with TrueHD.
Maybe this time we'll be able to make out where Earl (Fred Ward) says, "Beer is for adults..."
I've seen this movie over 500 times and I only spotted 4.5 mistakes. Yes, I'll be buying it the day it comes out, unless it comes out in a $36 combo disc. While Kevin Bacon doesn't think too highly of this film he hasn't had the same type of chemistry with any other actor in any other film he has made. imo.
Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) for the win.
wallijonn 11-15-07, 03:24 PM You could save yourself a good $10 on those overpriced DVDs.
IIRC Tremors on DVD is going for $9.99 or $14.95 for the trilogy, $20 for the quad.

Graham Johnson 11-15-07, 03:32 PM All I can think is " BOX SET "
I have all 4 on DVD and would rather buy a boxed set of all of them than just one. BUT I will buy this first one regardless
BTW I actually rather liked the last one where it was set in the old west. But the first one is my favourite. :D
