Am I the only one who thought Shaun Of The Dead was a better movie than Hot Fuzz? Im not talking about PQ/AQ, just the movie itself. I felt a little let down by Hot Fuzz since it was so built up in everything I read about it...

I enjoyed both films (and bought both - double dipping on Shaun) but Shaun for me was the better of the two.

I give the edge to Shaun, though I voted I liked both equally, but I thought Hot Fuzz was kinda stupid and fun like the genre it modelled itself after. Kind of hard to compare the two, I think. Of course, I went in thinking the general consensus on HF was not only not as good as SotD, but that it was total crap. If I'd gone in with higher expectations, who knows.

I enjoyed both of them as well.

I think it depends on the subject of Zombies vs. cop buddy movies. Shaun of the Dead was inherently funnier, I think, due to the Zombie factor. :D

I liked hot fuzz better, but really I thought they were both overrated. I went in to both with very high expectations because of the praises, they were great movies but didn't live up to my expectations.

Loved both. If I take the "red" pill this XMAS, I'll own both.

Really liked how each went from being a parody (of zombie and action movies) to actually becoming what they were poking fun at (a zombie movie and an action movie).

I love both, but Hot Fuzz had the edge because I grew up on action flicks, not zombie flicks, and there were some parts that just drove me nuts when I first saw it. What an incredible movie.

Shuan rules, too, tho'. Both are amazing HD DVDs.

I wanna see them do something sci fi next.

Got to be said, Hot Fuzz is an great example of the advantages of HDM

I liked Hot Fuzz. It wasn't as funny as advertised, but it was still a pretty good movie nonetheless.

Did anyone else think some of the death in the movie was rediculous though? I know it was supposed to be but:

the reporter's death with the piece of the falling church roof was just downright NASTY!!! :)

Yeah, that one surprised the hell out of me.

The retribution in the end was too.

What 3 persons of questionable tastes hated BOTH? Please stand forward so that I might mock thee.

I loved em both, and could not possibly choose one over the other. Shaun was awesome, and I feared Hot Fuzz wouldn't be nearly as good and didn't plan on seeing it theatrically, but a friend dragged me to the theater. My mouth hurt afterwords from smiling and laughing so much, mmmm thats good comedy. :) Thankfull to have them both in HD.

Spaced: The Movie?

That would be great. I was a big fan of the TV series and have both seasons on DVD.

By a nose, but then again, _The Wicker Man_ is a bigger phenomenon in Britain than it is in the States..

(I hope that wasn't a spoiler ;)

I haven't seen SOTD in a while, but I know I liked it. But I love Hot Fuzz, chose Hot Fuzz.

I loved both of them, but I have to give the edge to Shaun since I'm a total zombie movie addict.

Very close. I voted on Hot Fuzz because of the more modern film production.

I think people going in to Hot Fuzz thinking they'll be laughing throughout the movie will be dissapointed. Hot Fuzz starts out proper and not slapstick. If the character of Nicholas Angel isn't serious you're not going to buy the story. Danny Butterman has to carry a lot of the humor initially.

Shaun of the Dead could be more funny throughout the film IMO. I love both of'em. Edgar Wright is really coming into his own. As the poster said above...I'd love if they did a Sci Fi parody.

I agree with the OP and thank god someone finally brought this up I thought I was the only one. I loved Shaun of the Dead and didn't get a chance to see Hot Fuzz in theaters so naturally I had high hopes for Fuzz. I must say that not only is it not as good as Shaun but I also think it fails as a movie in it's own right. I laughed at the beginning but that was about it. How Hot Fuzz scored higher on RT is beyond me.

Shaun hands down for me... I bought Hot Fuzz on the hype and enjoyed the movie, but if I had to do it over again I'd of rented it. I do look forward to spending some more time with Hot Fuzz because I hear the extras are quite good.

I rented Shaun first and loved it. I have that coming in a couple days from Amazon. Hot Fuzz should be here tomorrow from Netflix. Hoping to love it just as much, although I'll probably buy it either way for the PQ showoff factor.

I liked Shaun of the Dead better. I saw it with no expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. Since I had already seen Shaun, I had high expectations for Hot Fuzz, so this could contribute to my opinion.

I liked Shaun of the Dead much, much, much more than I did Hot Fuzz. I didn't think Hot Fuzz was all that great.

Shaun of the Dead. I actually thought Hot Fuzz was overated but I went in with high expectations from how much I liked SOTD.

I loved both movies, but being more of an action movie fan, I'll give the edge to Hot Fuzz...but just barely.

Fuzz is the funnier movie, but there's a real sense of dread that hangs over Shaun which just gives it the edge for me.

Shaun Of The Dead since I'm a giant zombie movie fan in real life.

I didn't get alot of the in jokes/homages on Hot Fuzz.

I enjoyed Hot Fuzz better, because it was more of an action film.

I am not really into Shaun of the Dead, even though I saw it.

It was pretty good though!

Shaun of the Dead was absolutely brillant. My favorite film from the past 10 years. I was expecting alot from Hot Fuzz and was letdown. I knew there was no way for it to come close to Shaun of the Dead...and I was right. I will watch it again to see if it is better the 2nd time though. Any one who hasn't see Spaced needs to see it. It's hilarious.

EXACTLY my feeling. And trust me, I wanted to love Hot Fuzz. I wouldn't have shelled out $25 for the disc if I didn't.

It was good. But, not as good as I expected it'd be. I came away wondering what all the people who said it was better than Shaun were smoking.

Hey gorbag, I was looking at the poll results and it looks like more people share this opinion than not :) I really LMFAO with Shaun but Hot Fuzz was just a few chuckles. Not a bad movie, but just not as good IMO.

I LOVE both of these movies. I was once quoted as saying "Shaun of the Dead is one of the greatest movies ever made". Still, I almost voted Hot Fuzz. In the end I could not choose. Its like asking which child you love more.

I like both equally. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are by far the best team of filmakers and actors ever. Can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves in the near future.
