View Full Version : Heroes Disc 1 Won't Play
My Heroes set arrived from Amazon today. Popped in disc 1, it locked up at 6 seconds. Tried again, went through the Universal and HD DVD logo, then locked up again. Tried multiple times again, used the boiling method, everything, still won't play. So I tried disc 2, it locked up at 6 seconds like disc 1, but then I tried it a second time and it worked fine. Then I tried disc 3 and that worked fine too. What's up with this? All my defective discs have been combos from Universal (Fearless and CoM, and those actually got to the movie) but this isn't a combo. Does anyone how I can get a replacement disc or a method to fixing this? Maybe I didn't boil it right. :p

1) What HD DVD Player model do you have?
2) Did you install the latest Firm Ware Version?

A2, I haven't updated it since I got it though (Jan). No connection.

that might be the issue... just go to toshiba's website and download the newest firmware iso and burn it to a disk.

you can download the firmware and burn it to disc, or they'll send it to you for free.

I've got an XA2 FW v2.2 and Heroes Season 1 played fine. I watched first 20 minutes or so over lunch.
You need a firmware update, newer HD-DVD's use a newer AACS key which is part of the copy protection.

It freezes up after I accept the privacy policy and the TOS, but my player still works (so I can hit the stop or eject button). I have never had a problem going online beforehand with 300, Blood Diamond, or even the Heroes download center. It's just the genetic test that won't load. Anyone else have this? Could there be something wrong with the server?
For the record, I'm running a FW 2.3 HD-A1

I'm a prime member as well and also ordered on the same day. just recieved an email that my order is being delayed and expected shipping date is 09/03/07 - 09/04/07. :mad: I thought I ordered this set the day it was announced on amazon. Who else ordered early and had there set delayed.

Weird...I ordered mine after midnight last night and I received my shipping notice with tracking number at about 1 PM EST today.

Wow, I wonder what I did to p!ss them off. You'd expect that orders would be fulfilled in the order in which they were received -- or something. I wonder what would happen if I placed a new order now (probably end up with an extra copy :) )
I've had this problem with a couple of brand new HD-DVDs. Try cleaning the disc with some soapy water and then try playing it again.

MSmith83 08-28-07, 09:09 PM I received my copy of Heroes today from Amazon. I just got through watching the first episode with no problems on my A2 with up-to-date firmware. I also had no problems when skimming through various extras and internet features on other discs in the set.
This is my first time viewing the show, and I must say that I love this season set. It is very nicely packaged, and the discs are loaded with interesting extras.

Yes, it did indeed work. And :D, you're right I am watching it! Thanks guys! This is definitely the best PQ for a TV show that I've seen thus far on HDM and it's so addicting! Off to watch more Heroes (screw Blades of Glory and Dawn of the Dead :p)!
