Highest ranking for a HD title on Amazon. The previous record was 300 on Blu-ray at #3. It now belongs to 300 on HD DVD.

Impressive, but I still have a feeling the BD has sold more discs to date.

Maybe that will change with all the new HD DVD owners...

Not to rain on the parade, but to be realistic, how long is it going to hold up? This is the result of the sale that is going on for the most part, so how long will that momentum keep up?

Using my own logic though - Why isn't BD doing the same thing assuming it's momentum is already built up and the sale applies to BD titles as well? Shouldn't BD be trouncing HD right now?

They are running killer deals on players right now though, so alot of people might be picking those up, and you get a good amount of free movies to go with them right off the bat. If I had 210 bucks I would get the A2 right now to replace my 360 add on and my upscaling Sony.

HD-DVD movies is currently out-selling Blu-Ray by better than 4 to 1. (in the top 50)

HD DVD is doing better on the sale because BD players (even the PS3) still cost more. I think the A2 is running about $200-$250 cheaper.

most people just want to get HD content, they do not care if its BD or HD DVD and HD is at a great price on amazon right now.

Sale does not matter as much as the perception that HD DVD is here to stay. If people thought it was dead it would not make a difference. The Paramount/Dreamworks announcement has made people confident enough to buy now. The sale is the cherry on the cake.

Also, price, price, price. I bought my 3rd player for $250CDN with tax last week, can't be happier

It should also make Warner take note.

Clearly, part of these "sales" are the 3 freebie discs included with players. And while BD has the same deal going, the HD DVD players are much cheaper (and therefore selling better). That's why the HD titles are ranking higher than the BD ones right now.

I don't know if that is good news or bad news for either side. But that's what we're seeing.

I'm surprised at this spike. I wouldn't have thought that a sale (which is not that much off previous pricing, and is for items about to be replaced) combined with just the P/DW announcement would have changed things much. It wll be interesting to see what the Neilsen's show for this week. If Amazon if any indicator you'd think HD DVD would actually be ahead. The 300 BD has been outselling the 300 HD DVD 2:1 or more on the Nielsens since it came out.

Out of curiousity (since it looks like 300 might) has any Hi Def (Blu or HD) reached the number one spot? I know 300 Blu Ray reached 2 before.

It will be a good way to test the superior HD-DVD attach rate theory anyway. :D

The BR fans keep saying that HD DVD sales for 300 hit their saturation point. Everyone already has a copy and that sales would drop fast. I guess they were wrong again.

Um, where please?

Toshiba HD-A2 $219+ Tax Tigerdirect store in Markham

They had them on their website but they are gone now. But maybe they still have some in the store. They had a number of shipments, but they sold very fast each time.

The Neilsens for this week (which won't be out until next Friday) were going to be interesting anyway, due to the lack of new BD releases this week and two big HD DVD exclusives (Heroes and Blades of Glory).

It's probably too early to expect a switch where HD DVD sales ratios are actually above BD... but I suspect it'll be the start of trending in that direction.

the sales for 300 did hit indeed their saturation point. that was until the 2 for 3 sale started on amazon.

hopefully it shows a clear sign to companies that they should lower prices. also this can have a negative effect in total as well. since more people will simply wait buying new movies until a new sale goes in.

I think what's more important here is the fact that there are 3 HD DVD titles in the top 10 list of all DVD's. 300, The Departed, & Heroes.

What a good day for HD DVD!

And the interesting take on that is one of those titles (the departed) has been out for a fair while so increased sales in this would indicated many new people getting into the format.

I think you and i have different ideas on what saturation means. For me it's the point where noticeable growth of that product/service can no longer occur. And as the sale shows, that was most definetly not the case.

I think you misunderstood the idea of "saturation point."

BD only fanboys stated that 300 would slow down because there weren't that many HD DVD players out there (which is incredibly incorrect seeing as how 300 sold far less than the number of players out there...).

Now with the new momentum, 300 has jumped again..especially compared to the BD version.
