I know this may be short-lived, but if you go check Amazon's Movers and Shakers in the DVD section, you will see that HD-DVD has most of the top 25 spots.

Only a couple of them are Blu-Ray:

Also, looks like the HD-DVD version of 300 is now #2!

And the top 3 electronics sellers are HD-DVD players!

who cares really...this is no war...both format will survive. Buy whatever you like. This is only temporarily...watch once the sale is over, HD-DVd number will come down to reality. Blu-Ray sales are steady growth that show strength.

This is why we need two formats to exist so that both side provides sales. It's going to benefit the consumers.

I wonder how much of this is in response to Paramount selling out last week.

It's in response to the sale that is going on right now, and perhaps people feel more secure buying HD-DVD's as the Paramount deal gave HD-DVD some legitimacy as a format. There are also new releases out for HD-DVD this week (Heroes and others) and none for BD. All this if HD-DVD is lucky will mean only being 60/40 to BD at the end of the week.

Movers and shakers are ranked off of consistency.
That is why you see more HD than BD in the top 25.
BD are consistently moving the same amount of units making it
tougher to get a huge spike in sales, enabling it to get M&S placement.

it could be a lot of once blu guys and gals going neutral plus new j6p buyers

the amazing thing about this spike is that the sale originated as a blu ray promotion that spilled over to hddvd

so blu ray should be equal to these sales numbers but aren't even close

ps i see a lot of people announcing that they went neutral over on the hddvd side the last few days

A quick count has 20 HD DVDs in the top 100, and 14 Blu Rays in the top 100.

I think the best thing to take from that, is that there are 34 HDMs in the top 100, I don't know if thats a record, but I would imagine it is.

Really remarkable.

I wonder if Amazon even knew their sale would be so successful.

I mean you think of the tiny amount of HD DVD and Blu Ray players there are in the market vs. the tens and tens of millions of DVD players, yet somehow out of the top 100 DVDs sold currently, 34 are HDM.

I mean if that doesn't tell these studios to release more on HDM what will?

We need to start buying more BD movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this is sarcasm, very well disguised. I will make sure I buy and HDDVD off of Amazon this week.

Both format will survive, for me HD DVD is better, cheaper for movies, BD is better for games, If all studios move to neutral = $$$$ for studios and all happiest.

Or does this show HD DVD owners are more cost conscious and with the sale going on they are buying more?

Nice

Like the BDA did not give FOX and Disney inducements for going exclusively Blu Ray.

When the BDA does it you call it good business. But when the DVD Forum does it you call Paramount sellouts.

A little hypocritical I think.

I dont think you understand antitrust violations....im no expert but i believe as long as Fox and disney never released on HD DVD throwing money to ONLY release on BD is legal....its paying someone to NOT carry a different product where we would see a violation. This is the root of the argument in this case.......

however i find it hard to believe whoever paid paramount and in whatever way they did (lets face it they didn't just wake up in the 8th month of 2:1 software sales and decide to root for the underdog especially right before the holiday when they would have benefitted from dual releases and when their titles were selling nearly double on BD) they received something for this, to plead ignorance as consumers is silly and laughable......whoever paid them and in whatever form, they knew itd be a huge move and im pretty damn sure theyd cover their tracks anyways so its a moot point.

The difference is FOX and Disney have been BD exlusive since day one. Paramount changed thier stance when money was thrown out, which (correct me if I'm wrong) is the definition of a sellout.

Wow. In that "movers & shakers" category, under DVD there were only 2 BD's in the top 20 when I just looked, and almost all the rest (in the DVD category) were HD DVD's. Also, the A2 and A20 were the top two players. Quite an impressive performance. Depending on further announcements at CEDIA (which could sustain this or turn it back) this looks like a major shift. I said this on another thread, but I wonder what the Nielsen's will look like for this week?

True, the spike is the result of some amazing deals going on over at Amazon. What's interesting, though, is that the same promos are available to Blu-ray yet HD DVD sales were big enough to make up the difference and overtake Blu-ray. I would've thought that the majority of BD owners would take advantage of these deals just like HD DVD owners did, and the gap would be the same as it was before the promos.

It is a temporary snapshot, but it says something about HD DVD owners who purchased an HD DVD player or Xbox addon for movies versus BD owners who, for the most part, bought a gaming console with a Blu-ray player built in.

I think it'll be interesting to see this play out; both formats received huge spikes over the last couple of days but honestly w/ the $210 A2 deal Amazon has sold a bajillion of them so that's more players in the peoples hands; I don't think they are buying them to just sit around and look at with no movies; sales will be up across the board; now it's a race to the $150 player.

Both formats WILL NOT survive. Blu-ray will fail. It has been preordained since the inception of lower cost players due to lower risk format that is HD DVD.

Don't keep fooling yourself, it will cost you plenty more than you have already sunk into blu.

Paramount have changed stance twice, which is the definition of seeing sense.

All that means is that FOX and Disney were paid off since day one...

Blu-Ray is a dead format playing. I predicted HD-DVD from the beginning. There was this one guy on the forums who would tell everyone to go Blu-Ray EVERY chance he got because HD-DVD was going to fail. He's going to be eating his words in the not too distant future. I wonder where he is now. :D

Based on what you typed and your signature, you are clearly a BD troll. Please leave the HD DVD forum.

I just want to correct that from what I see - there are almost twice as many titles on sale on Blu-ray than HD DVD (4 pages vs. 2) - and HD DVD still sold more....

As of right now in Electronics, biggest gainers:

#1 - Toshiba HD-A2, up 5,000% (sales rank in Elect. - #1, was 51)
#2 - Toshiba HD-A20, up 1,140% (sales rank in Elect. - #15, was 186)
#4 - Toshiba HD-XA2, up 260% (sales rank in Elect. - #147, was 530)

Now would be a good time for them to sell the PS3 and any BD titles they own on Ebay and buy a 360, a Toshiba A2, and a few movies.

Much more entertainment value for the buck.

Incredibly, the average rank of the top ten HD DVDs is 19. :D (The average for the top ten Blu-ray movies is 33. Which is also very good, but not as good as HD DVD! :D)

What's this thread about???
Anyone who thinks the format war is over...
should be made to read this thread over & over...
till they get it! ;-)
(actually happy for dual format owners)

GREAT to see HD DVD in the lead for Top Ten & Top One Hundred.

Has either format ever had the Top 10 ranked this high??? I think that HD DVD may have set a new milestone.

Blu-ray will find a niche like betamax did with TV production. That niche will be computer data storage. Only there is it relevant whether your disk holds 30 GB or 50GB.

Whine of the week: Blu whine . . . made from all the sour grapes that popped up like daisies after Paramount and Dreamworks Animation went HD DVD exclusive.
Best sig I've seen in a while! :D
