View Full Version : Sony VPL-HS51 problem

Sorry for the shaggy dog story, but I want to give as much data as possible.

My Sony VPL-HS51 has for some reason stopped receiving an image from my Sony DVP-NS975V DVD player via HDMI (component and other feeds work as normal).

Normally my HDMI feeds run through a 5x1 Octava switcher (other HDMI units include a HR10-250 HD-DVR, a HR20 HD-DVR, and an HM-DH5U D-VHS -- all work fine) but even if I run the DVD player directly into the projector I get no picture.

A variety of HDMI cables have been tried.

I've also tried a Sony DVP-NS90V with same result.
I've also tried an Oppo DV-980H... it gives its splash page for about 5-6 seconds then goes dark.

The DVP-NS975V worked fine for over a year, then one day did not.

If I plug the DVP-NS975V into my 37-inch Westinghouse monitor it works fine.

I am super puzzeled by this.... any help would be appreciated.

It is hard to say what it is. If you tried a tested HDMI cable and still problematic I say the pj has handshake issue with HDMI connection.

I agree. Do you have a non-HDCP source to try with the PJ?

Please re-read original post.

Unit works perfectly with three other HDMI sources.

Unit works perfectly via component, composite, S-Video.

Six different cables were tried.

This is a real puzzle.

No need for six cables.:)
As long as you know it is not the source nor the HDMI cable then it is the unit itself.

Your post was too long. I just skimmed through it and responded to CaspianM.

...it's still too long. I give up. :)

Well that beats me too that it works with other HDMI sources but one and that one works with other monitor.
I still think it is hand shake issue but hard to say what.

Yes I agree, an HDMI handshake (HDCP) issue.... but what?....how??? A component (capacitor, resistor, etc.) and why just for DVD players?

This blows me away.

I've an Oppo 970 connecting to the same Sony HS51 and an Infocus IN72 via HDMI; the handshake works most of the time. I do need to turn off and on the DVD player when there was no input detected by either PJ.

It's more an annoyance. DVI is more stable.

I had the same problem with a hd dvd player.Disconect trun off reconect until you force the handshake, buy a volt regulator for pj bulbs last longer and chips dont spike from ac
