So last night I am watching a DVD on my 4805 when I hear a loud pop and the color on the screen goes red. I immediately turn it off and let it cool for about an hour. I turn it back on and still red so I turn it off and start searching the forum here. Looks like the color wheel shattered.
Today I took the 4805 (not under warranty) apart and sure enough there are multi-colored plastic pieces inside. I clean it up and fire it back up.
It is 1960 all over again. Black and white TV.
I called Infocus to see about a replacement color wheel but all they do is suggest buying another projector and want to pass me on to sales. F that.
I figure it is time to upgrade to a 720p projector.
My question:
Is the projector OK without the color wheel?
Am I damaging it further?
Will it be fine until I buy a replacement?
Anyone know of a source for the color wheel for the easy fix?
Thanks.
Joe
