Well,

I'm excited to announce that my local Wal-Mart has entered the HD DVD fray. Just recently, under instruction from Sony, my local Wal-Mart reorganized it's PS3 endcap. They were instructed to make sure that movies were stocked in the endcap (which has space of 15 games, plus a shelf for accessories and another for systems). My Wal-Mart, which previsouly only had two BD films, increased their total number of films to 8 (10 as of today). They were instructed to remove games from the case to make room for the movies (so the PS3 endcap was 8 movies and 7 games).

Well, what did I find at my Wal-Mart today? There were two HD DVD's in there now, 300 and TMNT (unfortunately both combos). Even funnier, Wal-Mart didn't remove any PS3 games or BD movies to make room for them. The movies were placed flanking the PS3 player on either side! The two most visible titles in the case are the HD DVD's. I find that funny on many levels. So now there are 10 BD movies, 5 PS3 games, and 2 premiumly placed HD DVD's in the Sony PS3 endcap.

The only downside of this is that I'm sure it will cause consumer confusion (I bought this PS3 to play these HD DVD movies, but it won't play them). The other odd thing is that on Friday, I sent an e-mail to Wal-Mart corporate requesting that they start stocking at least new release HD DVD's. I guess my wish was granted!

I hate to tell ya but I think I remember a thread or statement made by walmart that were going to carry BD exclusive. Either way thats great, aprox 400 walmarts are stocking some HDM's and the remaining stores should have inventory by mid next year. You have to understand, walmart sells 110 million in cat litter annually ( the walmart brand not including any others ), so in the scheme of things the HDM market is barely worth looking at for walmart.

I saw the same 2 HD-DVD movies in my local Walmart. Well, in fact I saw just one. 300 was already sold out. I know because I inquired a sales representative...

Wal Mart has not endorsed any side. In fact lately they have been putting in two sided aisle displays with Blu-ray on one side and HD DVD on the other side.

Same in my locale... except that until I slung a beef about it, the two HD-DVD titles were actually hidden behind the BDs.

They moved them out, but left them in the same case, refusing to move them one-over to merch beside the "360" add-ons.

Best part... both the Dept. Manager & Store Manager insisted they had NEVER stocked or Had In Stock any High-Def Discs... HD-DVD or BD.
Right on top of their store, eh?!?!:D

So far the local walmart just get the movies that come in the big cardboard shipers. So the WB stuff and sony stuff.
Which results in the OS going in the PS3 case. Right now its about 8BDs and 1 HDDVD (TMNT)

Someone should ask Paidgeek how Sony feels about having their paid endcaps used to promote HD DVD. I bet if this is widespread, Sony would blow a gasket.

I was looking for Heroes today at Walmart and finally found it in the PS3 display. I was annoyed because who would go looking for HD-DVD's with the PS3? Not only because it isn't compatible, but because it's a video game! I look for HD-DVD's in the movie section!

at least you are getting HighDef disk at your walmarts... the walmart in morristown, TN gets crap... once and a while usually the bigger titles they will get the bluray disk in and it will sit on the shelf for a couple of weeks, collect some dust and then you never see it again. right now they have TMNT the same 5 disk have been sitting there since they were released. they actually are collecting dust...

Really? Link? I doubt they are going Blu exclusive. They'll end up selling a low cost HD-DVD player.

My local Super Wal-mart carries both HD-DVD and Blu-ray. There's slightly more Blu content, but there's the same allotted space.

I have noticed that they don't keep the HDM specifically in their place. New releases are scattered throughout the electronic area with other new releases on DVD on end caps and other shelves.

The other regular Wal-marts don't carry any HDM at all.

I believe that was Target not Wal-Mart

The BDA gave Target some cash to have an end-cap and also to have BD be the exclusive stand-alone HDM player. One can still get HD DVDs at Target as well as the 360 add-on.

The only rumors I have ever heard about Wally World involve them promoting cheap HD DVD players. That may happen, but Wal-Mart has made every effort to deny that it will so at this point they have no preference.

Yesterday, one of my local wal-marts had 1 copy of TMNT in on HD DVD. I was happy to see them to at least have something.

My local super-wal-mart has yet to stock any HDDVDs :(

But they have a plethora of Blu-rays, which is odd because the only Blu-ray player they sell is the PS3, and they have more than 1 HDDVD stand-alone units for sell in addition to the 360AO.

I live near a "Super Walmart" that has 2 stand alone HD-DVD players plus the XBOX 360 HD-DVD Addon, only the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. At present they carry only 6 Bluray titles (same 6 it's been for about 4 months now I believe), plus TMNT & 300 on HD-DVD.

AND... 1 box of Heroes HD-DVD. (I think it is a paperwork mistake.)

All of the above titles jammed into the PS3 endcap. Heh.

My local Super WM had a nice isle display with 2 tv's. one side BD and the other HD and had a ton of older movies for both most were $18.98 each. They have moved it into the back room and I havent seen it out in over a month, its a shame

I was just at my local one today and they have absolutely nothing to offer either side, red or blue. The one thing that I thought was funny is that they had a Heroes Season one display set up. It was one of those cardboard marketing displays that they had sent to them. It had four shelves on it for the series. The top two shelves were pretty much full, the bottom two were completely empty with the message "Also available on HD DVD" somehow I dont think that they sold all of their HD DVD copies.

The older, crappier of the two wal marts in my area had one of these too. They basically went from having at most 10 titles of each format to actually having a somewhat decent selection of both formats.

here they are both lumped into a 1/2 aisle "endcap" (the video game aisle) in no discernible order although the BD get's more exposure in the 'face fronts' (top shelf only) than HD and they probably split titles about 2:1 BD:HD

to boot, the "endcap" is backwards facing from the main entrance to the electronics entrance.

Wow. I wonder what the "always" logo emblazoned across the front of the stores *really* means.

What it means to me is: Always a Festival of Mediocrity.

Kinda funny that the store manager and assistant manager had no idea whatsoever that their store was stocking high definition media. or kinda not.

I used to work at Wal-Mart. I can almost guarantee that the reason the HD-DVDs are in the PS3 case is because it is in a case. DVD theft is high at most Wal-Marts and to have an expensive disk out "in the wild" like that would be asking for trouble. I remember when our electronics department had all of the DVDs in locked cases, similar to how the video games are today (and that was in a small town in Indiana).
