Sanyo LP-Z2000: bulky 1080p projector coming to Japan

Another product destined first for Japan is Sanyo's ugly duckling LP-Z2000. It's not pretty, but it's clever, and let's face it — when a projector is producing a great picture, who really cares what it looks like?

According to the product page translation It's a 1080p LCD projector boasting a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,200 lumens, 14-bit color, up to two times zoom, and two HDMI 1.3a connectors supporting DeepColor.

It can throw an image from 40-300cms across, including a 100cm image when the projector is situated three metres from the screen.

It's pretty quiet too, emitting just 19dB. Dimensions are 40cm (W) ×34.6cm (D) ×14.6cm (H), and it weighs in at 7.3kg.

It's due out in Japan on 1st November for the equivalent of around £1,600.

Sanyo LP-Z2000 enters cheap 1080 LCD projector battle

The battle of the 1080p home theater projectors gets even more rip-roaring today with Sanyo tossing its somewhat clunky looking Sanyo LP-Z2000 projector into the ring, at least in Japan. This 3-LCD $3000-ish monster looks more like an industrial-strength toaster, but still nails the specs with an HDMI 1.3a port, 1200 lumens and a 15,000:1 contrast ratio.

It's also doing its best not to wake up the neighbors, matching that Mitsubishi LVP-HC6000 projector we showed you the other day in the noise department, also quoting a nearly inaudible 19dB sound emanating from its cooling fan. However, like that Mitsubishi, this Sanyo projector's aimed at the Japanese market first, set for an October release.

The big news is that there's a whole lot of activity now in the low-cost 1080p projector front, bound to find its way across the Pacific, and it's putting even more competitive heat on the Epson with its Powerlite and Panasonic and its PT-AE100U, both projectors already released for $3000 stateside. Will some enterprising manufacturer try to undercut these $3K players? Do we hear $2000 for a 1080p shiner?

I guess they made it bigger to make it quieter. It probably should have longer lamp life as well, due to better cooling.

as ususal the CR is with a dynamic iris, at high color temp
the brigthness of 1200 will likely be 350-400 with 165w at 6500
as for the zoom beware of dramatic drop in lumens as with the epson and pana
at the tele mode.

but it sure will shake further the way too low priced 1080p market.... :D

the Sony VW60, JVC RS1, BENQ W9000 are imho preferable options to consider

With a case that big and ugly, it should have had a 300 watt lamp and 3,000 lumens.
