Was just checking out the top 100 DVD at Amazon and it is loaded with HD DVD movies due to the promotion they are running. I am blown away by the number of catalog titles breaking the top 100. I myself bought 10 movies, mostly catalog.
If movie studios are serioius about HDM, it is not just for new releases, but more importantly because they want to sell all their movies again on HDM. I think we are giving any studio that doesn't release on HD DVD reason to rethink their stance because Amazon is demonstrating that at ~$14 per title, HD DVD owners will gobble them up, double-dip or not, catalog titles included.

What is better about all this is that Blu-Ray has the same deal going on. Meaning that the true numbers of HD DVD fans is actually higher than Blu-Ray. If that wasn't the case then Blu-Ray should be kicking butt. I would imagine that the increase in HD DVD players this past week is also having an effect on this.

Well I only consider it double-dipping if it is on the same format, but I get your point. I think many of us became HD DVD supporters based on catalog titles. When this whole “war” broke out I took a close look at my DVD collection and noticed that the majority of titles I would actually want in HD were Universal titles, thus I went with HD DVD first. I know several other members that did the same thing and I know a few Blu-bois that went Blu because of the Fox or Disney catalog.
I think the biggest thing with the Amazon sale is the ability to get a discount on Universal titles. I’ve seen TWC, Paramount and especially Warner titles on sale on a regular basis, but getting a Universal title for less than $20 is a rare deal indeed. Nabbing 3 Universal titles for $40 was just too good of an opportunity to pass on.
