Seriously people, I understand that HD-DVD is newer and is going to be more expensive than regular DVD, but WTF is up with the price of Heroes? The DVD version is onsale at most places between $30-38, but the HD-DVD is over $60 more no matter where you go because it is not on sale. That is an outrageous rip off!!! The HD-DVD version should not be anything beyond $30 higher. Hell, they could easily put the series onto 4-5 discs rather than 7, which is counting the extras.

Fry's advertised the HD-DVD version for $80 and the SD version for $37. That's a tought price difference sure, but I got my for $59 shipped, so I'm happy.

I'm not. Best price I could find locally was $79.96 at Walmart, about 3 cents less than what FYE Superstore wanted for it.

Those losers at CC and Target didn't even stock it.

I finally gave in and ordered from amazon, and even paid the extra $6.98 for 2 day shipping, and it better be here Friday.

Here's my contract:

Total for this Order: $66.43

Shipping estimate for these items: August 29, 2007
Delivery estimate: August 31, 2007

(I guess the word "estimate" may help them out though)

update (20 minutes later) It's already in "Shipping Soon" status, so looks like it will be shipped out later today. Apparently paying the extra $6.98 is a good incentive.

I printed out the Target web page listing it at 69.95, brought it to "Best" Buy, and walked out 2 minutes later with the set at that price.

Got mine today from amazon and paid $59 for it. I have prime (it really pays for itself, and I got this on the release date) and I used my 10% off (promo from last year) and the tvguide thing.

You really can't beat it (even without all the extra money off).

I agree $99 is crazy when the DVD is advertised for 37ish. Luckily there is alot of places online to get it cheaper.

Yup, I got the same deal. $59 and it will be here today thanks to Amazon Prime. No need to drive around town looking for it at places like Target or Worst Buy who usually sell it at MSRP :)

I think everyone is missing the point here... the premium is way too high for HD-DVD... I mentioned this in another thread, I ended up ordering it on regular DVD for $35. If they want everyone to jump on board, they shouldn't price this stuff so much higher.

I personally have NO qualms paying $74.99 (what it rang up for at my local Best Buy) for the entire boxed set first season of this show in HD. It was an amazing show, and in comparison to seasons for other stuff on TV (namely anything Star Trek related, or anything from the BBC) this price is a downright BARGAIN. NON-HD Episodes of Doctor Who from the BBC go for $80, just imagine what an HD version would cost!

The strange part is that while Best Buy USA has it for $99.99, Best Buy Canada has it for CAD$79.99, which is about US$75.50.

I ordered it from Amazon.com USA though, for ~$65 shipped to Canada.

We know Best Buy will NOT make HD DVDs cheaper than Blu Ray.
They have too much money at stake.

It should be $75 at retail and around $55-60 online.

you have 22 eps i believe at about 45 mins each. that equals 16.5 hours of shows without extra's . We pay anywhere from $20 to $27 for a movie with 2 hours of movie about excludiing extra's .

I got mine on amazon with the 5% off .

TokyoShoe I wasn't really looking at it that way, I was looking at it compared to the standard def set... I just don't understand why it is twice the price. It's bad for the format.

I haven't had a chance to crack my set open yet. Let me put it in the player tonight and see, maybe it's got extra content? *Shrug*

IT does have quite a bit more extras. It also has 6x the the resolution, and .5% of the adoption rate of the DVD. The DVD will sell between 3-4 million copies where the HD DVD set will sell between 20-30K copies.

I'm plenty happy watching it on my DVR since I record all the episodes...TV shows IMO just don't warrant paying big bucks for...it's a TV show.
