I plan on purchasing a refurbished Optoma H79. What would I gain by adding on an outboard processor ?

My two sources will be SD-DVD and HD cable TV. This system is 99% movies in constant image height. Thanx guys

I ask this because I never thought that I was going to upgrade to such an affordable projector.

Out board processors like those buit into projectors and dvd players scale and deinterlace images. For example 480i SD-DVD to 720p. Some high end processors scale and deinterlacer better than the dvd player or the projector can so that is what you are paying extra for.

Generally more control and options are provided as well... You can change things like colorspace and framerate, ect..ect.. from source to output in ways build in processing never seems to provide.
