The market is only about 18 months old. Why are you limiting to the past 6 months?

For example, Batman Begins was released about 12 months ago... but I'd absolutely recommend it.

Matrix boxset, NIN and Hot Fuzz. Tokyo drift was released last year but has the best sound out of all the hd dvds even with only DD+.

There should be some type of sticky on the HD DVD software thread relating to sound. I don't know why the recent titles are all you are looking for and I am not an expert audiophile, but the best one in my collection for sound is The Fast and The Furious. The sound can blow you out of the room if you want.

Recent titles because I owned an X-box add-on up until about 6 months ago. Haven't owned a HD palyer since. So I want to watch movies that have been released since then.
I know they all sound great but some sound superior for either overall or bass or surround.
I am no expert audiophile either and don't own a crappy HT system but also not a rediculous one that costs as much as a car. Average I guess.

What kind of stuff do you like?

Music >>> EAGLES and NIN are phenomenal

Movies >>> Just look for TrueHD, although I like MI3 a lot too.

A.VOID.....my Yamaha V661 doesn't do TrueHD audio, but it does pass 7.1lpcm. So do dvd's with TrueHD get turned into LPCM for pass through? Sorry, I am not the most knowledgeable guy on this as you can see, lol.

The gun fight scene in Hot Fuzz is amazing. Probably the best I've ever heard.

just because something is Truehd your gonna get great sound, same with HD video. Its all in the sound design, even though Fear and loathing has a truehd track its no demo material by design.

I have the same receiver and yes, your Toshiba HD-DVD player can decode the TrueHD soundtrack and transmit it as LPCM to your receiver. Basically all HD-DVD players are required to decode the lossless audio formats, which is one reason HDMI 1.3 receivers are not really necessary.

By the way, I love my Yamaha!

I second that!

Tokyo Drift
Batman Begins

And I thought The Hulk had pretty a good soundstage too.

I could pick your brain for hours on this receiver. It is actually my first none H.T.I.B. receiver. So I'm still a little lost on how to's and what's the bests.
I am slowly going through the V661 owner's thread trying to absorb...but this site can really flood a newbie.

Batman Begins was actually the first movie I watched when I bought my xbox add-on. That was about a year ago, right?

They're crazy to give Eagles 3.5

The DTS is very impactful. Crystal clear sound, one of the best concert sounds I ever experienced.

Just get the Matrix Trilogy. You have your Sound and Video bases covered with a nice set that can be watched over and over. Reloaded with Trinity going into the building is phenmonal (First part of the movie)!

I'm gonna go ahead and recommend Hot Fuzz as well. The end scene is almost unbelievable.

Can't believe no one said, Superman Returns. The Airplane rescue is an AMAZING demo of what TrueHD can do. Some other good ones are:

Matrix Trilogy
Batman Begins
Distrct B-13 (in french)
Hot Fuzz
300
Aeon Flux
Mission Impossible set
The Bourne Identidy/Supermacy
And once again:
Superman Returns.
