I've had a PS3 for about nine months but I just sold it to a friend to go back to HD DVD exclusivity. I found myself using my PS3 less and less as the year wore on. After Casino Royale and the first Pirates movie, I don't think I watched and enjoyed a single exclusive Blu Ray title. After looking at the upcoming lists, just about every movie/TV show I want to purchase is either HD exclusive or Dual Format. The only Blu Ray title I really wont is Lost, but I wouldn't buy season three until after I can buy season one and two. On top of that, HD DVD versions of 300, which I replaced my BR edition with an HD edition, and Heroes really sold me on exactly why Warner, Paramount, and Co are so hyped up about HDi, network capabilities, and special features.
This is coming from a guy who NEVER watched special features on regular dvds.
Couple all that with the fact that my buddy made me an offer on my PS3 that I couldn't refuse, I decided to get out of the Blu Ray game.
I will eventually go back to Blu when they put out software that I really want, they sort our this profile nonsense, and the player prices approach HD DVD levels. It is what it is and my PS3 was nothing more than a big, shiny paperweight for the last couple of months.
So for now, I'm enjoying my copy of Heroes: Season 1, an overall experience that no Blu Ray disc has yet to match. Compare that to Casino Royale, a movie with fantastic PQ and AQ, but besides that, nothing that couldn't be done just with a regular DVD.
As it is right now. Blu Ray is Super High Quality DVD, HD DVD is Next Generation DVD.
Do I think HD DVD is a shoe-in to win this war? No, but as it is right now, I think they have the better product.
