Depending on many variables, you may not be able to use MCE as your PC capture method. You might need the native (or third party) software for the capture card in your PC.

Some DVRs have had methods of extracting content in it's original form. You would need to find the make and model number of the box and go to a forum or website specifically devoted to that device.
