We are remodelling our kitchen. I am planning on adding some in ceiling speakers to add distributed audio. This will be primarily to play some background music and occasionally some radio. I am currently interested in something in the Sonance Symphon series but am open to suggestions.

My question: Looking at the kitchen and breakfast area layout attached. Where would you place in ceiling speakers? The ceiling is 8 ft high. The kitchen the listening area is probably closer to the larger island where there will be seating for 5. The breakfast table is a standard 6 place table. I figured that I would probably need speakers in both areas.

Would you :
1. Place a single stereo speaker in each area. (Kitchen and breakfast)?
2. Two mono speakers, individually connected to R and L channel in each area?
3. Would you place the speakers over the island and breakfast table or closer to the left wall of the kitchen and the right wall of the breakfast area? If you would recommend two single channel speakers then how far apart and which channel on which side?

Thanks for the help.

I would probably go with two single stereo speakers in each area, it doesn't really matter too much where in each area they are placed. I'm assuming that your floor is pretty reflective- wood, linoleum, or tile.
