I am planning a dedicated theater in the space above my family room. Would like suggestions for soundproofing the floor that would not be too expensive. Was considering putting black board down with 3/4" subflooring over it. Will use a thick carpet pad and decent carpet for floor covering. Any suggestions appreciated and comments on my thoughts---Thanks JH

The usual floor recomendation is a product called acoustik mat. Not too cheap from what I hear. Run a few searches, it is a heavy rubber underlayment. There was a thread on using some tractor shop stuff as an alternative, but not sure if you'd get the performance out of that.
