Make a picture in MS paint to give us an idea overall. I have a few ideas myself, but need to know the dimensions of the room.

are you wanting people to tell you how to arrange your stuff?

or are you wanting to spend some money and build it out differently?

ie. pull the stuff where you tv is out , build some custom shelving in there and replace everything and add some trim around the edges?

umm i just wondering what other ppl would do in my position..

well, as nozerider said, it is kinda hard without knowing the overall dimensions of your room. is it rectangular, what are the lengths of the walls? draw a little picture in paint and mark it up.

then theres questions like do you want to watch TV from the bed? Do you want to move it and put a couple of chairs there instead for gaming and tv etc. Extra shelving is always nice.

see thats my problem  thats the only place for my bed... ill try and draw something im not the best though.. i would love to have chairs or a couch there instead... i was wondering if i should move the receiver and stuff somewhere else on a shelf or i can try and make something..

As you can tell im not the best with paint! the wall my tv is in has a closet on both sides of it.. then the wall my bed is on has a sliding glass door, then the 10' wall has a window in the middle with my a/c and across from it that wall has my enter/exit door.

Given the room I think you're doing the best you can. I dunno what you gain by moving the receiver et. al

If you use those speakers for music only I'd move them to the side of the room with the window.

well those speakers are my fronts for my surround sound... so can't move them. mayb get smaller speakers? I just wana rearrange mayb shelfs hopefully I can talk my mom into takin the tv stand she said its an antique haha..

I have attached a simple shelf that you can build in your closet if you want. Make sure and get the ok from your parents and if using power tools, be veryu careful. I know of a few people of have lost fingers to power saws. Try to hit studs with the screws. if unable to hit the studs. they have special sheetrock anchors that you can buy at home depot. one that might work for you is a big place screw (may 1/2 inch thick) that screws into the sheetrock and they the metal screw goes into it.

Maybe the bed can turn sideways opposite the tv, between the door and glass doors. Have you thought of maybe putting a Futon in there and getting rid of the bed? You could add a couple of chairs and a coffee table and it would be a total game room and you just fold out your futon at night for sleeping. If you do get a futon, make sure and get a good one with a thick mattress. they can be pretty uncomfortable if you get a cheap one.

Good luck.

I was just showing you how to build the first shelf. As I mentioned in the bottom of the drawing, you can build as many shelves as you need. 4, 5 6, whatever. it would be up to you to do measure your tv and stuff and figure it out.

you could have a tv shelf about halfway up. then a pull outshelf below it for you game system and stuff. and shelf above the tv for your DVD player etc.

as for an entertainment system like you showed. From what you said your space is limited and building something like that is alot harder than just putting in a few shelves. I dont know what your level of carpentry skills are like or what your budget is like. Can you afford to buy all new stuff? i dont know, you havent really shared that much information.

Good luck.

I donīt think I understand what you want.

If you are looking for wood, try plywood for example. You can use every wood that can be sawed into pieces...

Or are you looking for someone who will actually build you the thing?

Between 1,5 and 2 cm plywood should do the job. What I also like is medium density fiberboard (mdf), sorry I had to look it up in the dic, so I hope it makes sense.

MDF is very stable and easy to work with. It is also the cheapes stuff you can get here. If you take mdf I would say 1,6 cm should be more than enough, depending on the weight of your TV. The outer parts could even be thinner

If I was in your position I would really look at building an actual built-in in that space. Something more along the line of these

http://www.leonspeakers.com/images/gallery/plasma_speaker_WAV(2).jpg

Something like this would make all your gear look a heckuva lot nicer, and they're actually not that difficult to builld, what kind of tools do you have access to? Regardless of what you do make sure you leave enough space for any future upgrades. For example alot of receivers and amps especially can be pushing 20" or more in depth, and when you upgrade your tv, you'll be getting a widescreen one so make sure you have enough width to accomodate that if/when it happens.

Hey,

You PMd me... I'm sorry but I don't think I have anything to really offer you other than what's already been posted. I'm a sound engineer but my carpentry skills are limited to basic hammering, maybe hanging a set of drapes, hanging a picture on the wall, putting together something with very clear directions...

I'll give you a small tip or two though. One, you might want to get those speakers up off the floor. Get some stands to get the tweeters up to your ear height. It should improve your sound. You don't have to spend $100 or more on stands; Amazon has some inexpensive Sanus Systems stuff in black that looks pretty good and doesn't cost much.

Also if you do build something, keep in mind a very important point that is easy to overlook -- you need access to get behind your gear and hook up wires, or at least enough room to get your hands back there. You need to always leave yourself plenty of extra wiring (speaker wires, AC, etc.) so you can hook stuff up then push the components back onto the shelves (but not so much extra that you end up with spaghetti back there). Plan on having enough good power strips and outlets so you're not running extension cords all over the place. You might just drill big (2"?) holes towards the back of the shelves to run wires through, that helps. Always plan the whole job step by step before you begin, including whatever tools and materials you need.

Me, I'd get someone with more skills than me to help me with a project like that. :)

OH and I like the futon idea -- I have one myself. Gave me the extra space I needed.

Good luck!

We are here. But I suspect not too many of us are really sure what you are asking at this point. You've been given some suggestions for doing some built in type of thing, and you have shown us a link to something at Best Buy.

Are you wanting to figure out how to build something similar to the unit you linked to Best Buy, or are you still looking for ideas on what to do with your space?

newyorkjets00

i wana build that thing from best buy or something like it.. just into that space i have... basically a in-wall entertainment center..

Are you planning on building into that closet space where your existing TV is? Are you wanting it to cover the entire width or are you thinking of something that you can squeeze beside it to get behind it? What sort of finish are you looking for (stained, painted or just raw material, worried about seeing seems)? Can it be integrated into the closet, or does it need to be standalone? Do you want it on casters(wheels) so that you can pull it out? How much are you willing to spend on building this? What tools do you have?

You drew up a little layout earlier, with 49" x 81" dimensions... are those the dimensions of your closet?

I'd highly recommend picking up a book on finish carpentry and built-ins to give you some good ideas on how to get something like this done.

Are you planning on building into that closet space where your existing TV is? yes

Are you wanting it to cover the entire width or are you thinking of something that you can squeeze beside it to get behind it? gona make a door behind there so i dont want to be able to see or get behind fromt the front.

What sort of finish are you looking for (stained, painted or just raw material, worried about seeing seems)? prolly paint it or stain it black

Can it be integrated into the closet, or does it need to be standalone? not standalone

Do you want it on casters(wheels) so that you can pull it out? no

How much are you willing to spend on building this? What tools do you have? um i dont really wana spend awhole lot really whatever 2-3 sheets of wood will cost me im on a budget here lol.. my friend has every tool i will need so ill be good there.. and the dimmensions i gave you are from the lip to lip sideways and up.. so it will fit perfect (flush) with the wall..

Since you are wanting to do this on the cheap, and can utilize the whole width of the closet, I'd just recommend the same thing that has already been recommended to you earlier, and make some simple built in shelves.

I am not sure if you need anything special to support the weight of your TV or not, but I'd think you would be fine with using either 3/4" plywood or MDF for the shelves and paint them all black. You were given some links early on in this thread on how to do some simple shelves. I'd just build a few of those and space them apart vertically so that you can fit your components and TV in there.

You will probably need to build some sort of skeleton frame deep enough into your closet to support the back of the shelves. You could make a false wall of sorts that you could use to run your cables behind etc (you did say you would have an access door back there right?).

Another thing you can think about is just getting some rugged shelves in there, and then trim it out with some molding on the face of them to pretty them up.... or cover sections with speaker cloth so all you see are your components and TV...

You have plenty of options. I'd suggest picking up a book on finish carpentry and builtins (I think I sugessted this before). This will help give you some ideas as well as show you how to build some of these things. Also keep looking around at various build threads and keep an eye on how some people have there equipment racks flush with the walls etc.
