And the Radio Shack (RS) model 1862!

If you have one that you no longer need, Id like to purchase it from you. What say you? PM me, and we'll negotiate payment. :)

The antenna you have your mind on isn't all that great.

For a double bow you would be better off with a cm4220.

Thanks for the advice. Im looking to experiment abit, with several models.

The 1862 is an older version of the RS-1880. You'll probably have an easier time finding the newer model.

I have one myself, but there's no way I'd ever give it up. It's one of the best set top models ever made, and I'm still using it.

Have a look at this webpage. The author made one based on the picture. http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/DoubleBow.html

If you want to experiment, you might go to the following thread, which outlines several antennas that are pretty easy to make. On the other hand, the 4220 that Rick0725 mentions is only about $21, and the 4221 (4bay) only about $26, not including shipping.

I just found an 1880 on ebay. Just missed an 1870 on ebay. Thought it couldnt hurt to ask.

Also will be acquiring a Silver Sensor and maybe a Recoton, and a Channel Master 7777.

Nice testament to the RS model 1862!

Maybe a DB2 or and a 4220, as well.

Please PM me if you would like to sell your Radio Shack 1862, 1870, or Double Bow Tie.

What is the difference between the 1862 and the 1880 besides cosmetics?

I'm not sure, but I think that the 1862's amp may be rated a few db's higher (5 maybe?).

I wouldn't say forget about those models at all. They have a very good reputation, and my 1880 with it's 24db amp gives me exactly the same results as a Silver Sensor with a 24 db amp added from where I'm situated.

I tried a lot of other VHF/UHF models (with or without amps), and that one was 10x better than any of them. (I never tried RS's "flying saucer" model, because it wasn't out at that time).

I just prefer to use the 15-1880 because it's VHF rabbit ears get me analog channel 11 for my TVGOS info.

The thing to know is, it usually is more effective with the UHF bowties turned horizontily than vertically, but you should still try both ways.

In my experience, the Silver Sensor is the best unamped, true set top model out there. I never tried a DB2 indoors, though. That would've been my next choice, had I needed one.

Thanks Ram

I may do a big comparison test, Im considering some other amplified rabbit ears, as well. I found a Gemini that looks similar to the Radio Shack 1880, probably get that too. Maybe I should get a couple of simple unamplified rabbit ears and loop and wire bow tie for comparison as base lines as well.

Oh and the Winegard Sharpshooter SS 3000.

I think I found a RS Double Bow Tie. I also may have a line on the RS model 1870.

The Winegard SS 3000 is rocking on UHF, not so good on VHF, from 44 miles South of Charleston SC cluster of towers.
