Question for those in the know:

We have a Sammy 50" DLP, purchased 3.5 years ago. The set has a DVI connect, but no HDMI.

Just upgraded my D* contract, and got the new HD-DVR. Currently hooked up with component cables, since the Sammy doesn't have the connection.

The pic quality right now is decent. But, does anyone think the quality would improve if I used the HDMI from the DVR, and used the HDMI/DVI adapter and plugged it in to the Sammy, in lieu of the component cables?

Thanks in advance for any help...

You really have to try it to see. Some people report that they definitely see an improvement with HDMI. Some say they see no difference, and the occasional person says component looks better. You will have to judge for yourself.

If you do try it, use an HDMI to DVI cable instead of an adapter, they are pretty cheap at monoprice.com. (From $3 to $7 scroll down to the bottom) I can't see a difference but some say they can.

Thanks fo the replies and suggestions. I will try the cable instead of adapter. Seems a "solid" connection would be better than the adapter anyway.

Thanks again...
