I'm wondering if the contour controls on my Rotel RSX-1056 receiver have any effect on the sound produced by my Yamaha DVD-S1700 player when I'm playing an SACD. What do most listeners do - adjust the bass and the treble settings or leave them set at 0?

I have the RSX-1056 as well and nothing except bass redirect and LFE/Sub level can be changed. Bring up the oscreen display and try to make any adjustments and you will see that the options are few.

You can change the sub level for the multichannel input under the sub menu. This allows for correction of the -10dB deficit out of your player (up to-15dB actually if bass management is done in the player itself).
