View Full Version : Problem with DirecTV HD
aftaylor 09-02-07, 05:24 PM I'm running a 3 LNB dish into an H20 receiver with full HD programming...yet almost none of the HD channels come in. Basically all the HD channels (espnHD, TNTHD, HBOHD, etc) just give me a 771 searching for signal, when all other channels come in fine.
So far I've only found one channel that works, HD-94. I'm getting a preseason game in HD from this, but the same game on NFL network (which i thought broadcasts in HD) is showing in SD, and all the other HD channels still give me 771.
Is this a common problem? How do I fix it? It's been driving me crazy for the past month.
Agent Fletcher 09-03-07, 05:36 AM You need to upgrade to the 5LNB dish. Call them, if you haven't already, then you will also be ready for the new hd channels that are coming out on sept 19.
mjones73 09-03-07, 08:55 AM You don't need a 5 LNB dish to get the existing HD channels, that is not the problem.
What model receiver do you have? I think there are some posts around about a recent firmware update screwing up the H20. Has it ever worked or did it break recently? More details would be helpful.
richall01 09-03-07, 09:11 AM Check to see if your dish is set for 3 lnb also check to see if the muti switch is set on

CaspianM 09-03-07, 11:19 AM This cannot be eq problem. I have exact same issue with both my h20 and hr20.
How do you set multi sw on? I only have one option which is 6x8 and it is grayed out.
mjones73 09-03-07, 12:39 PM Again assuming you have an H20, check over at dbstalk, multiple posts complaining the new firmware is causing this issue.
aftaylor 09-03-07, 02:17 PM Yeah, it's an H20-600 with the 0x2024 firmware.
Also noticed that I get the same 771 message for local channels.

I get all sort of them..727,721, multiswitch problem. So what is next?..have not had HD for a week now.
aftaylor 09-03-07, 02:31 PM I also just noticed that I get n/a for the signal on most all of the transponders for the 110 and 119 satellites, but 90+ for the 101. I'm not sure if you only need to have signal to one; sorry, new at satellite tech.
netty1967 09-03-07, 03:50 PM I received the 2024 software update and it knocked out my HDMI video. I have a H20 600. I plugged in a componient cable for video to another television input and I got video. Bought a new HDMI cable thinking that may be the issue. That did nothing. I called customer support and she said that HDMI doesn't work on the H20. I've used it for well over 18 months and it did work. She said I would need to go purchase componient cables and use those until there was a download/upgrade that they are working on? My PS3 works on both of my input so its not on the tv end or cable.
gully_foyle 09-03-07, 07:22 PM Three possible problems, all hardware: the multi-switch isn't working with one of the satellites; there is a loose cable between the MS and the dish; or the dish is somehow mis-pointed. Have there been high winds lately? Any new obstruction?
Check your satellite signal levels via the setup menu. Is there a satellite that shows very low levels on all transponders?
gully_foyle 09-03-07, 07:30 PM I also just noticed that I get n/a for the signal on most all of the transponders for the 110 and 119 satellites, but 90+ for the 101. I'm not sure if you only need to have signal to one; sorry, new at satellite tech.
Sat 101 is all of standard def english-language. It also has 94-96 & ABC and FOX west (87, 89) in HD. Satellites at 110 and 119 (west longitude) have the rest of HD. Locals may be on any sat, not knowing where you are.
So, yes, you need them and it looks like your dish is badly pointed or your multi-switch is broken or miswired. See http://www.widemovies.com/dtvtransponders.html
mjones73 09-03-07, 08:46 PM Let's try this yet again, if it was a reception issue, he'd be getting signal not available errors. There are multiple people online complaining of this issue ever since they got the latest firmware.

aftaylor 09-03-07, 09:47 PM Yeah..I'm not sure if its the aiming, because all the transponders on 101 are 90+. 110 and 119 are just N/A.
I'm running quite a bit of cable (possibly 100+ft); could I just need an inline amplifier?
Finally, if I can get my receiver replaced (bought at Costco less than 3 months ago, thank god), should I just try that?
mjones73 09-03-07, 11:39 PM Can you check the firmware level on your current one and post it?
aftaylor 09-04-07, 04:17 AM 0x2024
mjones73 09-04-07, 08:40 AM That would be the bad one, not much you can do about it until D* fixes the firmware. Replacing the receiver may work though you could end up with the same problem if it ends up with the same firmware.
aftaylor 09-04-07, 12:43 PM is there any way to force the box to download older firmware?
mjones73 09-04-07, 01:42 PM Personally don't know, I suggest you check out the dbstalk forum I linked you to above, they have a ton of D* information over there.
