Hey guys,

Just picked up a 60' Sony SXRD A3000 - Anyone have any recommendations on settings for these sets for Xbox use?

Also, I'm currently connecting via component - Would it be wise to switch to VGA?

Finally, what resolution should I specify in the Xbox? 1080P? 720P?

Thanks!

What does the manual say for resolution options for the VGA?

Try them both out see how they look to you.

I reccommend setting everything at the maximum setting of a 100. Its the BEST and BRIGHTEST CLEANEST PICTURE. AMAZING.

I've read the Sony tvs has a poor connection when it comes to VGA!

Run at 720p and game mode is not an option. Do not run at 1080i.

I have my Xbox outputting 1080p over HDMI to my 60A2000 (last year's model). I know last year's model could not accept 1080p over VGA. I don't know about this year's.

What about 1080p?

Game mode, which only runs at 480i and below, disables most of the image processing features on the set to reduce the audio/video sync offset. At higher resolutions those image processing features are already disabled, since the content source is HD and likely doesn't need to be souped-up to look good on a 1080p display.

there can be lag. The tv will upconvert 1080i to 1080p, so you can have (not a lot) lag..

I have the older 50" XBR1 and I can say with extreme confidence I've noticed no game lag with game mode enabled. I usually leave it off but it honestly doesn't make a bit of difference. And there's no discernible difference between 720p and 1080i with regards to 360 games on my set. I've played on both settings and my 360 games look identical in picture quality and response time. To me, all my content looks a tad bit better at 1080i but I guess for the most part its a personal decision.

I have an A2000 and my 360 is set to 1080i. Game mode turned off on the TV.

I haven't had any issues with lag and I game online a lot. Maybe there is, and I don't know what to look for???

I'm an ISF calibrationist who happens to also have an SXRD. My 50" A2000 is connected to a 360 at 1080i and I get a gorgeous picture with absoluetly no lag. You want the XBOX to send as close to the native res of the display as possible, but I know my A2000 won't do 1080 over VGA. I use a reference disk to help with settings on dvd players, but the 360's player is crap so I haven't done so yet. I read that the limited edition of Halo 3 has an a/v optimizer with it, so I upped my reservation to that just to get the XBOX 360 test patterns on the disc. Sending settings is also tricky since lighting and room conditions can make one person's calibrated settings someone else's crap. Shoot me a PM if you want some advice on setting the set, I'll be glad to help.

BTW: 1080p is not always the best setting even if you have a 1080p set. I was calibrating a 1080p Samsung LCD with a 1080p Samsung blu ray player and the 1080p setting caused a field of jumping blue dots to overlay the picture! 1080i looked amazing though. Point being, try all the settings and see which looks best to you.

I concur I have both the 60 XBR1 and 70 XBR2 and I don't notice any lag on either display. I actually have never turned the game mode on.

I've read mixed opinions on using game mode. I also have an XBR2 so I'll have to mess with this setting. What differences do you notice with it on and off?

I got these settings from the XBR2 thread on the other forum for HDTVs... but here is what I use:

XBR2 Settings

Turn off all advanced menu
DRC Mode 1 is the best
Gray Scale tracking on
Picture set in low 80's

HDMI
Iris Auto 2
Pic 82
Brightness 66
Colour 46
Sharpness 5
NR OFF
DRC mode 1
DRC Palatte 30/30
All other ADV feature off

Game mode I leave off and notice no difference, like the above poster said it's for 480i anyhow.. and with the elite I use 1080p

Just curious if anyone has settings for a 55A2020. I have an elite running HDMI in, but I run 1080i instead of p in order to having gaming mode on. Is it worth having gaming mode on, or should I run 1080p?

lexx_kun

Like we said, game mode is meant to avoid the image cleaning features meant for low resolution sources. If you run high res sources, those image processing features are disabled anyway (no game mode needed).

Philip I have the 55A2020 and the Elite as well, I used this site as a starting point then made my own tweaks from there. I have the Elite outputting 1080p.

If you are lucky, those settings will be close. Unfortunately each TV generally needs it's own individual settings to look correct.

I've always heard/read that settings will vary based on the lighting in the room where the tv is. That's why most people here do not like to post the settings they have their tv's at. Their settings may look like crap on your tv in your room.

Pic at 82 and brightness at 66 is going to deliver quite a washed out picture no matter what your rooms lighting levels. Say bye bye to black and hello to gray with those settings.

No you should be fine, I used the same settings with the component cables... I recently got the elite when it was released in April (had the component cables since 360's release) And personally I don't see much, if any, different in the picture quality in movies, and I think Halo3 will be one of the first 1080p games, so I can try to see if makes a difference...

I take that back, I had a .txt file with some information I copied from the original XRD2 thread, and I used that as reference, I ended up with the following settings and have been using them..

Iris - Auto 2
Pic - 88
Bright - 55
Color - 46
Color Temp. - Warm 2
Sharp - 30
DRC Mode 1
all advance off...
