Question...I don't know if this is the best place for it (but I searched!)

I have an LG DU-37LZ30 LCD television. The HD works great on antenna, but using my Motorola DVR (DCT6416 III) the HD channels will not expand to cover the whole screen. I can zoom them in (with poor quality), but toggling the aspect ratio on the television or the DVR doesn't help. There are black bars on all four sides. It's clearly in Hi-def, just tiny and centered. I've been through every possible scenario with the cable company. Also, FYI, the universal remote with the DVR is incompatible with my LG TV. Is this just a compatibility issue I'll have to live with?

I'm an amateur at this. Don't reply with big words.

What connections are you using from your cable box to your television? If you're using the composite (single yellow RCA connector) or S-Video (sometimes erroneously referred to as "S-VHS", a 4-pin Mini-DIN with a center block) connection, you will not *ever* get HD video. You need to use either component (3 RCA cables, red, blue and green connectors) or HDMI (single compact multi-pin connector) for HD video transport to your set.

If you're using either component or HDMI, then you've got a potential issue; go into the menus and see what resolutions your cable box is set to output - it may only be configured to output 480i, which your TV probably assumes is 4x3 aspect. If that's the case, enable 480p, 720p and/or 1080i as appropriate (depending on what your set can do, and possibly if the cable box upscales better than the TV - try different combinations and see what happens).

Edit: You might also have only a coaxial cable (do you put your TV on channel 3 or 4 to watch programs via the cable box? If so, that's almost certainly the case) - that will be the same situation as with composite or S-Video.,
