View Full Version : I have an 880 - should I get the Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote?

I have an 880 and like it fairly well. It does what I need it to do (most of the time). I just ordered an Xbox 360 HD DVD player (we have the 360, plus a Sony 46XBR2 and a Denon 3808ci). I'm wondering if the Harmony 360 remote will give me anything that the 880 isn't giving me. I wouldn't miss the color screen nor the recharging capability.

Any takes on the Harmony 360 remote? Does it wake up via tilt sensor like the 880? I think I like the overall shape of the Harmony 360 remote over the 880. I've no real reason to switch, but if there's something worthwhile about the 360 remote, I'll see the 880 and get it. Any ideas on a fair price for an 880 in excellent condition and that's never had any issues?

1. No, the 360 will not give you anything earth shattering that the 880 has not, except for the dedicated buttons, if you think those would be important. On the other hand, you will lose two "soft" buttons compared to the 880.

2. The 360 does not have a tilt sensor: just a "glow" button.

3. I have heard the 880 would probably go for about $100 on craiglist.com, depending on your neighborhood, but there are no guarantees until you actually sell it!

The 360 is a great remote. I prefer the location of the transport controls over the 880. I also have the X,Y,A,B keys mapped to the colored keys of my Motorolla DVR. I also like that the buttons are separated compared to being right next to each other as they are on the 880. There is a tilt sensor but it is fairly useless... it only works after the remote has been in standby mode for a while. It just doesn't kick on any time you pick it up.

BTW, I have three of the 360 remotes! One for the theater, one for the family room, and one for the bedroom! I love that remote! :)

Glad to hear it. I went ahead and ordered the remote and have already sold my 880. I think I'm going to map page up/page down to the channel up/channel down buttons since I literally never use those (I always use guide or favorites on my Motorola DVR).

Any tips would be appreciated (since you have so many of these). Thanks again.

What kind if equipment are you using? That's a good idea for the page keys.

I dont know how but I think my 360 remote has a tilt sensor. Whenever I touch/pick up the remote it glows on its own.

We're using a Sony 46XBR2 LCD panel, a Denon 3808ci receiver (mainly for its HDMI ports - 4 of them in and 1 out to the LCD), Xbox 360 (new HDMI premium model), Infinity PS12 sub and a Polk Surroundbar. We really like the setup even though we'll eventually move back to a true 7.1 system (we turned our theatre room into a study since I'm a med student - at 36, no less!). We have this more compact setup in our main living room now.

Using the page keys just occurred to me while I was looking at the button layout and trying to figure where I'd put the page function. It dawned on me that I've not used channel +/- in years....literally. Let me know if you have any good tips.

I loved the 880 a lot. I like the 360 even better. I love the green backlight. It seems brighter and much easier to read everything. The shape and feel of the remote trumps the 880 completely for me. I like the button layout better and I honestly like the screen better. The 880 is color but the grainy/blocky resolution doesn't look that great to me. I like the clean look of the 360 screen. The button presses feel more tactile and responsive. And finally the rubberized backing is simply the best.

If the 880 ever gets a better screen and the same backing I might go back. Very happy I switched though.

I'm looking into this remote, but would only get it if you can program a HTiB. Are you able to do this with this remote?

Short answer: YES!
Long Answer: It will be much better than the remote that came with your HTiB. Choose any of the Harmony remotes that you like, and don't forget the 720 for $120 at Costco (when they're in stock).
