View Full Version : Paramount/Dreamworks: Boycott!! "NEXT" Blu Ray or Not at all!!

I noticed that Amazon still has my Blu Ray pre-order for Blu Ray "NEXT"... I suppose at some point it will just never show up... Just as out of nowhere I was wondering why Blades of Glory never showed up...

since this is the appropriate Blu Ray section, I suggest that you withold the purchase of Paramount and Dreamworks movies in HD-DVD. Please make them feel that there decision was not without a price. We were so close to ending this format war, which is why Microsoft stepped in to ruin the whole "disc format" to favor their downloads in VC-1 in the future...

I am not going to be buying "Blades of Glory" nor will I be buying "Next" or any future release from Paramount or Dreamworks in HD-DVD for needlessly prolonging this format war: NO SALE!!! Blu Ray or bust!!!

Give the money back to Microsoft... The excecutives at Paramount and Dreamworks would rather have new beach houses; NEEDLESS and ENDLESS format war...

You say that you're not going to be buying movies on HDDVD, implying that you own an HDDVD player and have purchased them in the past. Why would you have purchased an HDDVD player if you are so completely commited to Bluray? Why would you have supported the "enemy", as you say the side trying to fund their beachhouses(as we all know, Sony donates all of it's profits to charity) to begin with?

Nothing negative here. Just informing you the format war is not even close to ending.

All this "Format War is Over by *fill in the blanks* are just propaganda constantly drilled to our heads. Some people bite into this hook, line and sinker.

BTW new date for "war ending" is now in 18 months. Not this September, or by the Holidays or even by next year. Its 18 months according to them.

It really helps when you are not a fanboy for either format. Just appreciate the High Definition movies available. Don't let it complicate you.

So unless you own a HD DVD player, what exactly are you boycotting? "Yeah I'm not gonna buy any of those titles that I can't buy anyway"?

Do you have a HD DVD player? If so, why did you buy it if not to get movies for?

Are you boycotting their DVD releases as well? Will you be returning all your Paramount movies in protest?

What exactly are you doing other than sounding a little stupid?

The hi def DVD market is so pitifully low that Paramount can lose its Blu-ray sales (along with its 70% market share) and not blink an eye. So why would we think that a boycott by a few AVS Forum dudes would have any effect whatsoever?

There folks on both sides of the aisle that are format neutral interms of hardware/software ownership, but are fanboys of one format. The HDdvd side is littered with extreme HDdvd supporters, but yet own BR equipment/movies.

Though I'm not a fan of these type of threads.

I am a firm believer that enthusiasts have zero (0) impact on the format war.

Boycotting only hurts the enthusiast as you are denying yourself content.

It is a great idea, but owning both formats is the best solution for enthusiasts.

I look forward to picking up Blades of Glory on HD DVD and I am a huge BD supporter!!

But i do not like BD enough to deny content from HD DVD...this is what the hobby is all about.

It is easier to buy both and wait for one to die. You are covered for any possible outcome.

Pretty simple strategy.

I won't be boycotting Paramount on HD DVD. How many format neutral people will really support this agenda? Seems rather unlikely to me.

Also, any hope that a few blu-ray fanboys will boycott Paramount will be wiped out by the HD DVD exclusive people pouring support into Paramount right now as a "thank you."

Just bringing a balance to the discussion.

When someone posts a link for a pro-HDdvd site with petitions seeking support for the format and asking members to visit and sign the petitions....how would you describe it? They are seeking support from the studio's, which is not much different than seeking to boycott a studio...both are wanting the same results, but different tatics. The OP has hardware and software from both formats. There are members who have posted their support for the pro-HDdvd website linked in that thread that own both hardware/software from both formats. How are they different than the OP from the above perspective. Point being those coming down on the OP for his position, should also have the same criticism of those HDdvd supporters in this other thread.

Or can't you participate in a civil discussion without resorting to sarcasm?

I buy based on specs for both formats. For example a dual format release, HD-DVD tends to win in this dept due to it getting preferential audio treatment in the past. I have no intentions in boycotting Paramount movies because of their sole format choice. Just like I don't boycott Disney or Fox titles for being exclusive to their sole format choice.

It's a business. They made a decision that one format was the way to go just like other studios have. Does buying two players not make you a proponent of continuing a "needless format war"?

I suggest that you withold the purchase of Paramount and Dreamworks movies in HD-DVD.

To withhold purchase assumes that one has an HD DVD player. Why would someone have both players and then boycott titles released on only one format? Isn't that the whole POINT of owning both players?

Just for the record (though I know you are not asking), I don't identify with either side...though I find extreme fanboys on both sides annoying...there are a couple on the hddvd side that really get under my skin. (that took a lot to admit that ;) ).
