Hi guys, I just got the 1st Pirates movie on Blu-Ray and I have a question. Basically I walked into a Circuit City today and saw it on their demo display (a 40 or so inch Sony Bravia I believe) and the picture was AMAZING. It had the incredible "3D" look that the stickied Tier thread speaks of, even though I know the first movie is only rated Tier 1, not 0. I can't really describe it, but watching the screen truly made it feel like I was in the scene and watching the real people a couple of inches in front of me. Needless to say, I bought the disc right then and there.

Well anyway I took it home and popped it into my PS3 (fully updated, RGB Full ON) and displayed it using my Mitsubishi WD-52631 DLP HDTV. It's a 1080p display for people who don't know, but it's not exactly the priciest display on the market. After watching parts of the movie, I just didn't see that same 3D effect. I'm thinking it's my TV set or perhaps the calibration settings... Can anyone offer any advice on this problem? I desperately want to achieve that 3D look they had at Circuit City.

In all likelihood they are pumping the contrast and backlight quite a bit more than you'd actually want to (for normal viewing, as you generally want to see what's going on in dark areas and stuff).

Just for fun, pump the contrast and back light (do DLPs have a backlight setting?) -- high contrast usually leads to a more vivid colors (and crushed blacks).

Check out the Rear Projection Units (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=63) section of AVS. They have tons of info about your HDTV. Those guys in there can help you set your Mits up far more than anyone could here.

Here'a a couple threads to help you start:
Mits WD-52631 settings (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=777418&highlight=52631) <== good starter settings. Adjust to these, then tweak to your liking.
The Official Mitsubishi 1080p DLP Owners Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=581433&highlight=52631)
2007 Mitsubishi WD-XX73X and XX831 Owner's Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=688802&highlight=52631) <== Not your model number, but may be of some help.

also try YCbCr instead of RGB and turn on Super White. and if your model supports it, put 1080p/24 on ON instead of Automatic.

just to let you know you should turn super white on, on your PS3. i doubt the PS3 is sending an RGB image to your TV, its prolly sending the other signal, the Y cb PR, which in that case RGB full isnt doing anything . make sure HDMI output is set to automatic.

When I toggle on RGB Full, the XMB wisp of smoke background gets darker and less faded looking. Does that mean it's working? A lot of people have been suggesting super white on though, so I will try that instead of RGB Full today when I get home from work. Thanks for all the helpful advice though!

Oh can someone explain why the superwhite is better? I did a search and couldn't find anything except that some TV's don't support RGB. I think mine does... I haven't run the calibration jpg to test it, but it doesn't appear to be completely crushing blacks.
