I never played GoW online until the other night.

After playing the CoD4 beta online - going to GoW seemed like a big slowdown. Is it just me or does the gameplay in GoW online seem incredibly slow paced? Maybe it was just the game I was in on - but it just seemed slow.

Not that slow is bad - I had fun and liked it - but it was nothing like I expected.

Also - I got the free map pack yesterday and wondered if there was a way to play on the maps solo w/o going online - just to check them out a bit before I go online and get slaughtered. :)

You'll need to do a split screen local game and you'll need two controllers. Just create a local gamertag and sign it in with controller 2 and you'll be free to roam around.

Also, there is a GOW scheduling thread here where you will find lots of AVS Gears players that regularly play together. They are all pretty good since I believe most have had the new maps, but everyone who plays is nice and will be more than happy to help you through maps if you happen to play with them.

Gears is slower paced than COD4 or H3. You may have been playing Warzone which makes it even slower paced because once you are downed you are dead unless someone picks you up so people tend to be more cautious.

If you want to speed things up try playing Execution or Annex with 5 second bleed out. You could also swap in some different power weapons to make it more exciting as well.

I personally like the pace of Gears. I also like the fact that there are no respawns so you like matters. With that being said I am having a blast playing the COD4 Beta.

I downloaded the new maps and learned them the hard way....by having my ass handed to me. I usually can get 15-20 kills per round and was struggling to get 5. Looks like I need some practice.
