I just purchased my Elite not too long ago and have mine sitting vertically. But after looking thru everyone's pics i see the majority have theirs horizontally. So is it better to have it set that way?

Neither way matters, mine has been vertical for a year and a half.

Did you move it into vertical position while the Xbox was on?

I had mine vertical.. but there are vents on the bottom of the unit that get covered. I now have it horizontal. Also less chance of scratched discs and the unit getting knocked over when im drunk.. :0)

Its best kept close to the door, so when the UPS guy comes with the MS coffin, you can pack it up and ship it out quickly. :D

Horizontal is the best, coolest And raise it with some rubber legs.

I have mine horizontal on a screened rack (in/out office rack) to allow air to flow to all areas. I would definitely make sure you raise the unit up so it can get better airflow.

I have mine horizontal with half inch rubber pads at each corner to increase airflow. Mine is a launch console, never had a problem, i have also had an intercooler on mine for over a yr. now with no problems.LUCKY? Maybe.

FTW: buy three rubber pegs, an inch or less in height, stick to the bottom of your xbox so that it's elevated off the ground, in the horizontal position = win

cheap and easy; just elevate it a bit and it will stay cooler

That's what I did to my elite. I purchased a set of 4 black, plastic chair feet covers, that were about 3/4 to 1 inch tall and put one at each corner of the 360. It's cooled fine and I've had mine since the elites launched.
