Buy The Matrix Trilogy, get a Free HD-DVD player:

4 September 2007 17:35 GMT - To mark the HD DVD launch of The Complete Matrix Trilogy, Warner Home Video and Toshiba have teamed up with HMV to host a special event at its flagship store on Oxford Street from 8am on Monday 10th September 2007.

The first 150 fans who buy The Complete Matrix Trilogy HD box-set will each receive a Toshiba HD-E1 HD DVD player completely free of charge.

Inside the store fans can see exclusive demonstrations, have a sneak peak at the jaw-dropping film in HD format, see themselves immortalised in a picture with the cast via a green screen and meet some "very special" guests.

In addition, expect to see dazzling visual displays, fans kitted out in The Matrix attire and Agent Smith style security to mark the HD DVD release.

As well as the HD DVD player giveaway - the first 400 people who buy the box-set will also walk away with a memorabilia goodie bag.

As fans will know, the Complete Matrix Trilogy HD DVD three disc box-set includes The Matrix, along with its visually amazing second and third instalments, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

Didn't Sony give away 100 Sony HDTV's to the first 100 buyers of the PS3 in the UK?

They just didn't preannounce it that's all.

Isn't Sony technically giving away the PS3 now anyways? Isn't it costing them money each time one is sold?

Toshiba probably got the idea when they heard the Blu-Rants

Desperate Blu-Ray Fanboy: "Toshiba selling a HD DVD player for $299!!! Talk about desperation! What company tries to undercut the competition! What will Toshiba do next! Give away a free HD DVD player away with the purchase of a movie!!"

Toshiba: "That's not a bad idea... it would be good PR and a way to help introduce people to HD DVD! Thanks Blu-Ray fanboys!"

Meh, Beatboy at it again with comments like "I am not sure how to interpret this :)"

Sony gave away HDTV's with their PS3 launch party. Let me see who lost more money.150 HD DVD players given away for the first 150 buyers who picked up Matrix trilogy vs HDTV's given away for every PS3 sold (AT A LOSS). hmmm you work out the math.

Quote from BBC site.
"The London HD TV giveaway is thought to have cost Sony more than £250,000. It also provided free taxis to get people home safely"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6485483.stm

Who is more desperate now?

Give me a break Beatboy.

What's the big deal? Blu-Ray has the same deal.

Except you have to pay $500 for the player. Oh, and you don't get the Matrix Trilogy either.

They seriously think fans are going to show up dressed like their favourite Matrix characters for the HD DVD launch?

Doesn't that only happen at major franchise movie openings like Star Wars and LOTR?

Let me help you out. What you should be saying, to stay in character, is, "Warner is anti-consumer. How could they allow themselves to sully themselves with this kind of promotional incentive, just to move a few of their HD DVD exclusive titles? Boycott Warner! Send them an e-mail!"

sounds like 150 free players at a specific store.

Straight forward promotion. I would guess that the store is helping pay some of the costs of the 150 players just to get the traffic in their doors.

Now if it was nationwide without a limit, then it would be a good story, otherwise, this is no big deal.

The new CVS that opened down the road from me gave everyone in the neighboring zip codes a coupon for a free 12 pack of Coca-Cola at their new location only...watch out Pepsi it is over now :p

Basically to kiss as* to 'hopefully' do some redeeming. This is his method of operation here and has been for months. Trying to get back into the good graces of AVS members, especially the Blu-boys (who now think he's a tool as well). Sad, really.

It means amonst other things:
Sorry Brits for screwing you over with overpriced hardware up till now. It was a mistake. You´ll get the 5 free discs with a new player promo now as well. Again, we are sorry.

btw the Matrix Box is ~70 GBP in the UK, that´s a whooping 140US$.

Having lived in the UK in the past, I have to say this is, sadly, the most true statement here. The Brits really take it in the arse when it comes to cutting edge hardware, software, and entertainment for some reason :(

I'm really not sure what is up with that.

An HDM First?

How about a Home Video First? Sony remastering TFE and making it a free trade in for owners of the original pressing. This has NEVER been done before. Not for LD, nor for DVD and we have seen some God awful transfers in the past.

The ONLY time a trade in has happened is if there is something wrong with a disc - either something is missing - or a manufacturing error has caused the disc to be unplayable.
