Hi everyone,

I was playing around a bit trying to program a 30 second skip button into my remote, and instead, I managed to disable my A (lock/triangle) button on my remote. I have a couple of questions:

Can I reprogram the remote so the A key works properly on the cable box?
If not, can I reset the remote entirely?
Does anyone know of a way to program a 30 second skip similar to Tivo?

I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box, the dual-tuner HD DVR. Thanks!

Comcast's answer is: "Um...get a new remote I guess"

1. If other functions are still working and it's only the "A" key that is not working, there are two ways to get it back. A. You can unprogram what you might have programmed in to the key:1. Press and release CBL
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 994
4. Press "A" twice
B. If the above doesn't work, you can reprogram the function to the key by using advanced code. The code depends on the setup code you are using, so if you know what it is, post the setup code. If not do the following to get the code:1. Press and release CBL
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 990
4. Press 1 and then count the number of times the remote blinks. That is the first digit. If it doesn't blink, the digit is 0
5. Press 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, and 4 for the fourth digit

If not, can I reset the remote entirely?2. There are several different resets. The safer one is done by pressing and holding SETUP until the remote blinks twice and then typing 980. It will reset most of the programming, including macros that Comcast might have programmed. There's a manufacturer reset which will clear everything, including any custom protocol that Comcast might have programmed in to the remote. I wouldn't recommend doing either of these, though since you will probably lose other settings that you might not be able to get back (there is a way, using JP1.x (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1009) cable, but that's another topic)

3. I think that is a function of the DVR machine, and I think the SA8300 does not have that function.

Thank you so much! The first thing you said worked, my A key is now reset and working properly.

Did you get an information on how to programs a 30 second skip? I had someone working on my DVR to added that function to the 'fav' key but didn't tell me how to do it.

Tks

Nope, no info yet on the 30-second skip. Do you have the 8300HD model DVR?
