Ok, when my house was built, my builders added a couple structured wiring cabinets in my server/AV closet. However as you see in the picture it is a mess. I need some guidance on how I go about cleaning this up in preparation of putting an AV Rack in front of it and making it usable to connect my equipment.

Any pointers on how to accomplish that? I am at a loss and figure I could always just go the sloppy way and attach the cables as they are to the components but there must be a better way...

The enclosure is 3 feet tall and 14 inches wide. It is this enclosure specifically -> http://www.openhousesystem.com/product_detail.php?productId=7

The cables that are run to this enclosure are mostly speaker cables, some cat5 for cameras, and some AV/Cables that were run to my projector locations.

Thanks for the help!

It looks better than the back of my rack! Lol.

What you might want to do is get some keystone blanks that can mount in your cabinet and just add the keystones as you need them, using inter-connect between them and your equipment.

I see you posted this awhile back. From the looks of the photograph, nothing is labeled and you have got sets of ethernet running down the same hole as your coaxial. Are there phone lines in here as well? It sure looks like a lot of time coming out of each of those holes in your cabinet. I was curious to see how you solved your structured wiring cabinet or if it's still sitting there as is.

The enclosure you bought was designed to accomodate blocks of different kinds (punch-down and screw down blocks). Are you going to use any of those systems? otherwise, I think you kind of wasted some money on something you didn't really need. Do you need to use all the cables right away?

One idea would be to fabricate some type of ladder system of metal that goes horizontally across the box. Perhaps you could build this two-deep with the outer-most being on a hinge to move out of the way. This would allow you to flatten all the cables out and see each wire.

Does that make sense (because when I re-read it, I'm not sure) :) Basically, build a door frame of lightweight strap metal and put horizontal cross members every 4" or so. Make two of these that fit into the enclosure. One goes ~1" from the back of the enclosure and is fixed. The other goes on hinges and is closer to flush. The ladder members can be used to zip-tie cables.

Just a thought because that's a whole bunch of wires. Good luck.
