I don't have a 360, just a regular XBOX. Everytime I put in a game it says that this is not an XBOX game, DVD or CD!!! I looked on their site and it said to delete the memory, I did so and still no change!!! Is there anything I can do or did it just die????

As an owner of multiple XBoxes I can tell you from experience that that usually means the disc drive is done. They sell replacement lazers but I just buy drives off of EBay and swap them out or find a used XBox with a samsung drive and swap away. I have had no other problems with my fleet of 10 XBoxes other than drive problems. Good luck.

Maybe you should try a cd lense cleaner cd? Just a thought.

I remember looking at some that specifically said not to use on xbox, but maybe you cand find one that will work and clean things up a bit?

Sounds like a dead or dying drive to me too.

Yeah, dead drives in the original Xbox was a problem for the early ones. Aside from XBMC, that is the main reason I modded my Xboxes. Now I just buy a game, drop it to the 120gb HDD I put inside the Xbox, and stick the game on the shelf. :)

Is it possible to do this and still play on xbox live? Do you see any benefit to load time since the game is on the hard drive?

I'm just wondering if this is worth it for me to do something along the same lines if I'm not worried about media center capabilities.

you lose Live capability, which is a good thing. you dont want people with modded systems on Live. load times for games are way better though, and the system is far quieter as well.

If it's your dvd drive and you want to continue to be able to play on live, then http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=64_22&products_id=29

Otherwise, just go to xbox-scene and create an account, and sell your box to a modder... or pay a modder to mod this one.

Either way, your xbox is worth something either way. :)

ramble on.....

Definitely the drive like mentioned, its an easy swap, and you should chip it while its out. Or just ditch it and upgrade to the 360!

Yep, also just an fyi, you can get around $30 typically for one like yours and you can still get brand new ones on ebay for $90+~something plus S/H.
