View Full Version : Playing Madden 08..
Rhino5167 09-05-07, 02:08 PM This is my first year getting into Madden and playing franchise on Pro. What is the best way to play defense...stick with a lineman and try to get to the quarterback? If so how do you make the defenseman get around the offensive player(swim move). I realize that when the quarterback does throw change defensive player by "B" and try to intercept/tackle.
Also I read that on the game there is a training that will help you learn how to run the ball better using the spin/juke features also tackling...called rushing/attack? where do you find it on the menu? Is it just in the training section?
I do like the game alot....just not doing so great in franchise mode...but its all good...TIA..
Tenkaipalm 09-05-07, 02:58 PM It depends. I blitz a lot, so usually, I'll control a blitzing linebacker or a D-lineman. If your good on the stick, I suggest controlling a safety and roaming the field.
ggreen1 09-05-07, 09:13 PM For me it depends on what defense I am playing because I have noticed when I play with the same type of player (lineman or linebacker, etc) too often the AI seems to keep me far away from the QB with supernatural blocking.
So in short switch players and try to attack from different angles.
On a side note I am really enjoying this version of Madden for me it's not perfect but it is a positive step forward.
I usually play a linemen so I can make more of an effect on the play. A lot of people I talk to use a linemen, but it doesn't seem as much fun to me.
One thing on offense, make sure you don't try too many jukes in traffic, and always use the right bumper to cover the ball when in traffic, or you will have a lot of fumbles.

You aren't kidding...I had fumbled three times yesterday!!! I thought it was just me at first...and yes I was juking in traffic and tried the spin move. I do like the game alot...
oktoberrust11 09-06-07, 09:06 AM I usually play as the free safety. Most of the defensive plays call for him to drop back into coverage, but I like crowding the outside of the line with him and blitzing the QB. You get burned sometimes, but it's fun. I play as the Lions, so Kennedy is the free safety - he has a nice combo of speed and tackling abilities.

What level do you play on? I am surprised you don't get burned on deep passes doing that.
I miss the in game, real time, stats that would show up on the ticker of 07 and a player made a play. Any way to turn that back on?

I noticed this omission during my last game, why remove something like in game stats?
FreeBaGeL 09-08-07, 11:56 PM Free safety and play in coverage. It will make you a much better player and when you get good at it will far and away improve your chances more than anything else you could do on D.
softballhead 09-09-07, 12:27 PM Anybody care to post some good realistic sliders?
Thanx
softballhead 09-09-07, 10:16 PM I just finished setting mine up today. Here's what I did: I wrote down all of the starters numbers for the main category in which I was adjusting the slider, and averaged'em. For example, I took all the starters ratings for QB accuracy and averaged'em out. For RB'S I averaged all the starters speed ratings. For pass blocking I averaged together all the LT, LG, C, RG, and RT starters numbers in that category, and so on and so forth. Here are are my numbers: QB ACCURACY-88, PASS BLOCKING-86, WR CATCHING-87, RB ABILITY-91, RUN BLOCKING-89, DEF AWARENESS-76, BREAK BLOCKING-84, TACKLING-81, KNOCKDOWNS and INTERCEPTIONS don't have specific categories in player's ratings, so I put'em at 75. So far,it seems just right. I'm noticing lots of individual animations now, instead of everyone looking and doing the same things. The RB speed and QB throwing speed definitely seem accurate.
Cool... I'll try that. What about the other sliders for difficulty, special teams, and AI?
Shizelbs 09-29-07, 05:22 PM Here is what I tend to do.... a mix of the following depending on what the situation calls for. Cover 2, plenty of LB, FS blitzes, and if I can give up plenty of short runs, but am looking to kill a drive with an interception, drop 5 people into an intermediate zone with 2 safeties playing center field. I usually play one of the defensive linemen, because I just screw things up whenever I take control of anyone doing man coverage.
Getting a user interception is probably the most fun thing to do in the whole game.
