well sometimes it doesn't hurt to work very close near the building were sega is located in the netherlands.

today went with a friend and got some time playing the latest beta and played Tropical course.

basically if you have played the sega rally on the arcade. the cars handle like it. that means very arcade like.

graphics. I found the graphics looking better with codemasters dirt. but the deforming of the tracks is a cool feature, although when the track is deformed and you have the second lap. it doesnt really add so much difference in driving, sure there is a difference. but not so drastic that you have to change your complete driving style, like for example with motorstorm.

oh also one of the guys working there showed us what happens when it rains and speed up time. you will see the whole track getting filled with water. pretty cool indeed.

All in all i would say as a pure fun racing game. i rate this with Project Gotham racing 3 / ridge racer / motorstorm. if you like that game. you like this.

however if your more the simulation type, like Dirt, Gran Turisimo, forza 2. then this aint really for you.

does it have the silly glare/flare quality the DiRT graphics had?

I had to stop playing DiRT because it gave me headaches due to that. I'm looking forward to Sega Rally for my rally fix.

I'd put PGR3 closer to Dirt than Ridge Racer or Motorstorm. Much closer.

I am looking forward to Sega Rally, but I'm afraid it won't have very many tracks.

Couldn't find anywhere if it will have car damage? I understand arcade game style racing (less physics) but a racing game today that has all the cool enviromental eye candy is a waste if your car stays in the same shape no matter how you drive it. Dirt was cool in that you saw all your parts coming off and your handling suffered if you bounced off everything. I might pass on this is that's the case.

I'd like to know about car damage as well. The development videos on the marketplace do a great job of showing the terrain deformation, but there didn't seem to be any damage model to the cars.

I wish Sega would release Initial D: Arcade stage 4 on any console. That's a day one purchase for me and many other ID fanboys. No idea why Sega spent their money on Sega Rally when all they had to do is port ID from the arcades to a console. ID would be a huge success with online play, more tracks and unlockables.

You did. It was called Dirt.

hmm, I thought track deformation was the main feature of this game. From your description it looks like more of a visual alteration, with only a slight difference in handle.

That sucks, because they really hyped that up to differentiate it from DiRT. Well, that and online play... which... I guess it's still all good!

Do you have an details on online? 8 players on same track?

You did. It was called Dirt.

Dirt is in the codemasters series. Rallisport was made by Dice, who was bought out by EA.

I've been waiting for a RSC3 announcement since 360 came out, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

the version i played had no car damage.

and yeah it was more of a Visual alteration in the beta i played. but maybe final version will change that. beta is still beta.

about online. the feature was not included in the beta i played. the menu looks lot the same like the original sega rally games.

also i tried to put myself in a sonic suit they had over there. unfortunate i was to big to fit in. damn shame would have made for a nice picture :)

Dirt was fun for a while, but the handling of the cars (pivoting on a stick, weirdest floating/banking) made some of the events a major pita. And the 'a little bit of everything' approach ended up giving me too little of the races I enoyed. Too unfocused, but a nice diversion while it lasted. Definitely not in the same league as RSC.

Very excited to hear Sega Rally will be an actual arcade racer. Not arcady, they all are these days. Very few real arcade racers around outside of Ridge Racer and F-Zero. I cried a little when you posted about Initial D 4 leehom. If they ported that it'd be my most anticipated game on any system. Graphics slightly below Dirt is no problem, as long as it looks decent and runs and plays great I'll be very happy.

You, me and many other ID fanboys do. We need to set up a petition to Sega!

Did you know they released this game on the ps2 and psp? The graphics are slightly worse (obviously) but I think the game plays the same and is a carbon copy of the arcade. I purchased the Japanese version for my psp, have yet to try it out.

Cars in replays look like Hotweels... Hope the feeling is better while driving. Still, it's a rally game and I'm looking foward to try it.

Yeah, have had the PS2 installment for a while (think it's the first part, been out for ages even on PS2). Love it, except for the blocked digital audio output. Must have been afraid of ze bad kids getting their pristine digital Eurobeat fix. Wankers. Game's ace though, and the thought of an update makes all my cheeks flutter uncontrollably.

DiRT is much much closer to Rallisport than it was to Colin McRae. I describe it as 75% Rallisport and 25% TOCA.

I took 20 min and downloaded all of the SR stuff on live yesterday.

I have to say the lack of damage is kind of a letdown. I am shocked that they could not add some scrapes and wrinkles ot the cars at least. Hell you could at least smash up the hood in Daytona for the Saturn!

On the handling though they put the game in woreframe mode and showed its not just a graphics change when you deform the surface. The track is covered with a 6CM mesh that deforms, they then went over it and showed the suspension and care moving with it.
