Hi Everyone!

Well we have moved again and I am in a bit of a bind. I have been looking here but havent found a specific solution...perhaps my search abilities just plain stink:confused:.

Anyhow I have a dedicated media closet in the middle of the house. All three Direct TV DVRs will be located in here as well as my amp, preamp, tuner, and DVD.

In one room I will have my projector set up that will be use one DVR. In the other two bedrooms I will have the others set up. Each room has a cat 5 cable run to an outlet near the TV or projector.

I would like to be able to control each room/TV independently. The ONLY one that will utilize the tuner, preamp, amp will be the Projector room. The others will only use the HD/DVR from Direct TV.

Any information will be greatly appreciated. I currently have an IR blaster type setup on the projector but this was only dedicated to one room and it had a little sticky end that would go to each device that works with a 3 year old Harmony (IR) remote. So I think that this would only work for the one room.

Thanks a million!

Regards,

:)

I would look at a URC setup with maybe an MX-950 with a RF multi-zone base station. The base station also will allow you to use separate blasters for each HD DVR.

Check out www.surfremotecontrol.com and make sure you click on the "Can I get a lower price"

I do not think that will work. The remotes that come with the Direct TV HD DVR's are just IR. I would need something that would work with that right?

This is what I currently have.

I suppose I could find some IR "eye" and place it at the TV....then "hack" into the Cat5 cable and make that run go to the media closet....then take the sticky trasmitter and put it on the DVR's by themselves?

Thoughts? Suggestions on what to get?

This might be another option! Has anyone used this or know anything about it?

The problem is that the new D* DVR's only have 3 codes to choose from: 2 IR and 1 RF. So if you put them in RF mode, then all 3 will be controlled by any D* RF remote. (I make the assumption that they are the newer R15/HR20 DVR's. The older TiVo based model have 9 codes.)

By using MX-950's and a multi-zone base station, the MX-950 communicates with the base station via RF, the base station then only communicates with the specified DVR.

The other option you have is to use an IR distribution system such as this: http://www.nilesaudio.com/product_selection.php?catcdID=5. They communicate via CAT5 so the wiring is easy.

Now to complicate matters a little bit for you, since all 3 DVR's are going to be in one location, have you though of using a matrix switch so that any TV could access any DVR?

Herd,

Not sure what a matrix switch is...will do a search for it.
