Now, the current record is holding by WHV(300), do you think the Transformers will be break the record on HD DVD side or the total amount?

May be but NO SHOW of LOSSLESS track on a BLOCKBUSTER title is an UNCOMPRESSED LOSSY SHAME on Paramount.

Oh most certainly because we will see all format neutral people buying Transformers as well..I doubt that anyone who has both will not buy it even if they prefer Blu-Ray. I simply don't think they'll just buy DVD version with non-HD audio and upscaled image. It's just hard to go back to SD when you start enjoying HD.

I'm pretty sure that 40-50% of HD-DVD owners will buy this title. It will sell QUITE well.

In case no-one's noticed, earlier today the 'Transormers' HD DVD was at number 4 at Amazon, with the SD version at number 14.

Numbers 1, 2 and 3 were TV series (Grey's Anatomy', 'The Office' and 'Heroes'), making 'Transformers' HD DVD the best selling film disc.

I've long been of the opinion that most high def owners are dual format. Most of the last few PS3 owners without a HD DVD player will doubtless crumble if/when the Venturer hits $150, and 'Transformers' arrives.

If 'Transformers' beats '300', or gets relatively close, Warner are put on the spot.

They've long argued that they're making more money (well, selling more films) releasing on both formats rather than just one. If most owners have both formats, then releasing two versions becomes an unnecessarily expensive luxury.

Maybe Beatboy77 was right after all (see Favelle's quote, above).

The Transformers HD DVD may very well beat the old HD DVD sales record but I have my doubts it'll beat the BD sales record since there are fewer HD DVD players in homes than there are BD players in homes.

I believe the question is will the Transformers HD DVD sell more copies than the 300 HD DVD.

How many copies of 300 were sold on HD DVD? I thought I read somewhere that it was around 100K. I believe that Tranformers will beat it out.

It took 1.8 million BD players to get 300 to 180,000, and HD DVD has far less players. It will do well, but it won't beat that.

Transformers will probably be the best seller of the year on HD DVD. I can't see Transformers beating 300 HD DVD + 300 Blu-Ray.

It might sell a lot of copies and it will definitely help bolster HD DVD sales, but whether or not it will break records, I couldn't tell you.

Exactly, believe the majority (95%) will fetch this fabolous movie, and hows that?
Well, everyone who owns an HD DVD player are into the true Hi-Def world and this movie is truly a must have in a collection regardless of audio codec.

So how many HD DVD players has been sold? +300.000?

Then why not 300.000 of Transformers?

It depends.

How much it "breaks the record" depends upon how many copies are available for sale. What I think will happen is that retail outlets will "sell out" of the copies they were initially given. From what I can tell, amazon.com has already sold out of their initial pre-order allocation.

When this hits the stores on October 16, they will sell out very quickly. The number of HD DVD versions of Transformers is VERY small compared to SD. Some store may only get six HD DVD copies total compared to hundreds of SD copies.

I think Transformers will "eventually" break records for high def media, but it will all depend upon how many copies were pressed and available for sale. I certainly think the demand is there.

This WILL be the best selling HD format disc up to this point. Do you really think Toshiba and the HD DVD group went through all the trouble of signing Paramount exclusive to just say "Here is Transformers HD DVD" and toss it on the table?

Thats like MS saying "Here is Halo 3" and just tossing it out there.

IMO, by the end of September we will now more on exactly what promotions will be happening with this movie.

Then what does the poll option of "Can't break the both record" mean? Isn't that referring to the combined sales record of 300 on BD and HD DVD?

Yep.

I prefer the pre-300 days when relatively "good" movies like The Departed held the lead. I also understood why "Planet Earth" held the revenue figure.

Seriously, are you guys absolutely sure that Transformers will beat Harry Potter or Shrek 3 on HD-DVD much less the Blu blockbusters? (I'm here for HD-DVD--just not Transformers as I want those two hours of my life back.) I think Transformers will be the best selling HD-DVD when it comes out. However, Harry Potter or another (hopefully better) movie will eclipse it very shortly.

I want better quality films to do better on high def in general.

But whether or not 'Transformers' does well on HD DVD is a very important issue - see my post (number 7) above.
