We will be getting this on monday, the wife is worried because all the negative she has read about it. We are moving from tivo, with a new Samsung DLP. what is everybodys thought about the SA 8300hd?
Would it be better pay for the tivo HD recorder?

By all accounts I've read, I'd agree with her - at best, you'll be underwhelmed by the relatively feature-poor interface, but you'll likely run into the SA 8300HD's various other issues as well. It's a bit more, but if you don't care about PPV and VOD, I'd go with the TiVo HD - I have a Series3 HD, and it's so worth it to have a unit that's reliable.

I'm on my fourth SA 8300, and also have ReplayTVs. The interface is terrible compared to either RTV or Tivo. It's unreliable (three broken, fourth not 100% reliable). It's slow to respond to menu choices. It cannot search for programs. If it runs out of space, it stops recording (no automatic delete of older files to make room). Menu guide searching is slow and frustrating.

Other than that, it's great! :(
